- If you’ve heard it once you’ve heard it a thousand times. “You’re just wasting your money and time.”
Maybe it was from well-meaning friends or family members this time around. Or perhaps it was from the media parroting the same old tired mainstream medicine lines.
But either way, you’ve been told YET AGAIN that any attempt you make to arm yourself against infection and illness with good nutrition is a fool’s errand. And that supplementing your diet with vitamins and minerals offers no protection against things like respiratory infections.
They INSIST there’s no action you can take to stop spreading infections short of locking yourself away. And, well, their half right.
Surprised? Don’t be.
Avoiding contact with others is absolutely your best defense against ALL kinds of infections. And, as I’ve explained many times before, that includes respiratory infections such as the coronavirus. After all, you can’t get sick if you’re not exposed.
But anyone who claims plugging holes in your diet with vital nutrients and vitamins doesn’t make a difference is barking up the wrong tree. And now a new research paper confirms you and I were right all long.
It turns out you DON’T have to sit around and wait, helpless as a baby hoping you don’t get whatever the latest circulating illness is. Because there’s a simple, safe, and natural approach that could help give you a leg up. Vitamins could provide your body the support it needs in the fight to prevent infections.
And, researchers say it could help give that support regardless of the threat, including the respiratory illnesses were all the most concerned about right now.
Immune-arming vitamins help build an infection barrier
A team of researchers from around the world – including the Linus Pauling Institute at Oregon State University – say it’s time. Time to give nutrition and vitamins some respect for providing people with the tools their bodies need to prevent the acute respiratory infections that kill 2.3 million people around the world every year.
That can include, they say, everything from the seasonal flu to the coronavirus.
The researchers are urging people to ensure they’re getting the right levels of all the basics, especially the mineral zinc, from a good multivitamin with minerals.
- 200 mg or more of vitamin C
- 2,000 IU of vitamin D
- 250 mg of EPA and DHA
They’re calling this basic vitamins approach a “safe, effective, and low-cost way to help eliminate nutritional gaps and support optimal immune function.”
Stay locked, loaded, ready… AND distanced
To be clear, those aren’t huge doses by any measure. If anything, they’re at the lower end of the spectrum usually recommended by doctors in natural medicine for everything from daily support to immune defense.
But they’re much higher than the paltry amounts under federal guidelines. For example, the government recommends a mere 75 mg per day of vitamin C for men and just 50 mg for women… and a measly 400-800 IU per day of vitamin D.
The researchers are urging regulators to step up and increase the recommendations on vitamins to help support the health of a nation in the grips of a seemingly endless health crisis. But to be realistic, I doubt that’ll happen anytime soon,
The feds have a long history of downplaying the importance of vitamins to keep us and our immune systems firing on all cylinders. And they routinely set the daily levels far too low for optimal health, much less good immune function.
And that means you may have to take matters into your own hands. The doses recommended in the new report are easy to find in supplement form and inexpensive.
They’re also considered safe. In fact, you could even go higher in many cases, so be sure to speak to your doctor about the levels that are best for you.
And remember: It’s GREAT to have an immune system locked, loaded, and ready to battle invaders. But it’s better still to not have that fight in the first place.
So don’t let your guard down. Along with good nutrition use common sense, clean hands, and social distancing, especially if there are outbreaks of ANY kinds of infections in your region.
