Forget the ups and downs. I think we can ALL agree that 2020 has been one big stress packed downer.
The deadly coronavirus pandemic has had us locked up and shut-in. Even when we CAN get out, we don’t exactly feel great about doing it.
And don’t even get me started on masks.
Of course, I wear mine. In fact, I have a wardrobe of masks now. We ALL need to wear them. But they aren’t exactly comfortable, either, which means errands and chores are even more taxing than usual.
Plus, they’re a constant reminder of what we’re facing out there. Who can relax like that? It’s no wonder experts say stress levels are at an all-time high.
So if you’re feeling drained, and if you’re struggling to keep it together and get things done, you’re not alone. The rest of us are feeling the same way. And our mental and physical health are taking a hit from the stress.
In fact, stress can even make us fat and supercharge killer cancer cells. But new research has revealed one little “sneaker trick” that could give you the quick mental reset you need to turn things around.
No stress. No fuss. And (mostly) no masks.
Slash the stress with this quick mental reset
Next time you’re feeling overwhelmed, or you’re finding it’s hard to focus, head to the closet, and grab your sneakers. Strap them on and stroll out the front door for a 30-minute stress erasing walk. And let the healing power of nature do its thing.
No, this isn’t hippy-dippy stuff. It’s based on solid science.
Being outdoors is great for body, mind, and soul. And new research CONFIRMS it can help you keep your cool when things are heating up.
The new study put nature to the test in some of the most worked-up, stressed-out, and just plain burned out folks: office workers. With 21 percent of folks battling sleep problems and 19 percent reporting fatigue stress was obviously taking a toll. But the survey of 2,000 workers and 1,000 managers finds that half an hour outside can send productivity soaring by a whopping 45 percent.
What’s more, the researchers found that the wellbeing benefits kick in after as little as just 20 minutes outdoors. And if it can wipe out stress for office workers facing the 9-to-5 grind, just think about what it can do for you if you’re worn down from the grind of life itself.
Take a much-needed mask break
The nice thing about a walk outdoors, whether it’s in a park or through your neighborhood, is it’s a chance to be out WITHOUT a mask.
You can enjoy a literal breath of fresh air. Plus, you’ll be effortlessly sneaking in another proven stress reliever… exercise.
As long as you keep a safe distance from others… at LEAST 6 feet… you don’t need to wear a mask when enjoying the great outdoors. Just keep one on you anyway, in case you’re in a situation where you might have an unexpected close encounter with others.
Dr. Anthony Fauci, at 79, still goes for a daily 3 to 4-mile power walk in his local parks. The infectious diseases expert keeps his mask under his chin and then flips it on whenever he has to pass someone.
If your parks and trails aren’t so crowded, though, you can probably just slip it in a pocket, so it’s handy in case anyone approaches.
