If we’re being totally honest if I were to be transported back in time and had to set up shop in a cave it likely wouldn’t be long before I’d miss my iPad and air conditioning.
But the delicious all-natural diet of our long-ago ancestors would leave me lots of time to miss them, because it turns out the so-called Paleo diet delivers big on the health benefits.
New research has revealed that eating the way caveman likely ate could help you shed pounds and slash your risk for heart attack, heart disease and an early death. And the good news is you don’t have to fix mammoth meat burgers to reap those rewards.
To “Go Paleo” in its most basic form, all you really need to do is…
- Ban ALL processed or refined foods from your diet
- Build your diet around all-natural foods including plenty of meats.
Once you make the switch you’ll never want to go back. Almost instantly you’ll start feeling and seeing the difference including real world changes in your risk for heart disease.
Reduce your heart disease risk with Paleo
In the new study it took just eight short weeks of eating caveman style for a stunning shift in volunteer’s interleukin-10 (IL-10) and inflammatory interleukin-6 balance to occur. You may recall from science class that the better your IL-10 and IL-6 ratio is the lower your risk for heart disease and other chronic illnesses.
These days unhealthy eating means most of us are walking around with IL-6 levels that are way too high and IL-10 levels that are way too low. It’s one of the main reasons heart disease has reached near epidemic levels.
The Paleo diet reverses that trend, delivering a nearly “bullet-proof” heart. In fact, it works so well that researchers report that just two measly months of eating like a caveman can send your IL-10 levels skyrocketing by 35 percent. But the benefits didn’t stop there.
Slash inflammation and lose weight with Paleo
Weight loss wasn’t a goal of the study. Volunteers weren’t encouraged to eat less or watch calories… in fact they were told to eat as much as they wanted too. Yet despite chowing down on as many meats and other all-natural fatty foods as they desired the folks in the study STILL lost weight.
I’ve been preaching a modified version of the Paleo diet for years now. Many folks see the same sort of results by simply going low-carb. It’s a little less restrictive than Paleo, but still delivers BIG on the health benefits.
