You’ve heard the old cliché about a million times. “Some things get better with age.”
Well, friend, I’m happy to report new research confirms it’s not just true for wine. It’s true for YOU, too.
It turns out there’s one key factor in our emotional health that’s so closely linked to physical health that they’re almost inseparable. Plus, when it comes down to it, you’re far better at this than folks HALF your age.
Time and age bring wisdom and perspective. And the new study shows how this unique real-world experience can put you in a position to beat the temptations that can impact your health.
That, in turn, can help with everything from controlling your weight to keeping chronic diseases under control or even entirely at bay.
You can consider it your “Senior Superpower.”
Seniors have more emotional stability study reveals
You want to see the generation gap in action? Go online and see the difference in what people are posting about during the shutdowns.
Younger folks are writing long, heart-wrenching screeds about confronting their inner demons while sitting at home for weeks. They’re detailing all the things they “miss” about going out to friends’ houses… restaurants… and even their office jobs.
On the other hand, older folks just want to know how they can get their groceries delivered.
Now, the new study shows why here’s such a difference. Older folks are simply a lot more emotionally stable.
Researchers created a unique experiment where they were able to contact volunteers from the age of 20 up to 80 via cellphone. Multiple times a day, they checked in with study participants to see how they were feeling emotionally and how they were handling life during the pandemic.
And wouldn’t you know it, the older folks were more stable on just about every level. And in particular, they were “less volatile” with their emotions.
Your Senior Superpower is resisting temptation
OK, so I get it. This could sound a little like psychobabble gobbledegook. But it’s NOT.
See, there’s one key area where this lack of volatility can be measured. And it reveals that this emotional stability makes a major difference in real-world behavior and health.
Older people simply DON’T give in to temptation easily.
On the other hand, younger folks having ups and downs do. The study finds that they’re likely to overindulge in food, drink, or something else even more harmful to deal with their issues.
However, seniors are so stable that no amount of emotional volatility seemed to get them to crack under pressure and give in to temptation.
This trait doesn’t just come in handy for enduring these lockdowns and quarantines, of course. This rock-solid emotional stability means you could enjoy better overall physical health. And potentially even a lower risk of chronic disease due to poor diet and lifestyle choices.
Yes, friend, your Senior Superpower means you were practically MADE to handle times like these. That’s why you’re weathering it like a champ. And will come out the other side in better shape than ever.
