If you’re like more than half of Americans, you could be doing this daily “to stay healthy.”
In fact, your doctor may have even TOLD you to do it.
And you can’t blame him, because no one knew about this hidden danger years ago.
You see, there’s an all-natural nutrient that many folks take which researchers say could send your risk of one of the world’s deadliest diseases soaring.
I’ll have more on that disease link in a moment. But first, let’s take a closer look at that nutrient.
I’m talking about the mineral selenium. And the problem is it’s easy to get too much of it.
You’re likely getting most… or all… of the selenium you need from your diet already. Foods like nuts and chicken provide us with plenty.
Hidden source of selenium puts you at risk
But if you’re not taking a selenium supplement, it’s not time to relax yet. Because it turns out you could STILL be at risk.
Here’s how…
Do you take a multivitamin? If so, do me a favor. Run and check the label right now.
Because many doctor-recommended multivitamins contain a whopping 200 micrograms (mcg) of selenium.
Now I know micrograms sound like they’re tiny. But that’s actually FOUR TIMES more than the recommended dose of the mineral.
And that alone could be putting you on the fast track to developing a dangerous disease.
Common mineral skyrockets risk of diabetes 50%
Researchers at Johns Hopkins University made a shocking discovery.
It turns out if you get too much selenium your risk for type 2 diabetes could climb by a staggering 50 percent.
And you likely already know how dangerous diabetes is. With serious complications such as blindness, heart attacks, and amputations, the disease can ultimately kill you.
So it’s critical you do everything you can to protect yourself from it.
The good news is you don’t have to swear off multivitamins. You just need to find one that doesn’t contain any more than 55 mcg of selenium, the safe, recommended dose for adults.
And keep in mind that selenium isn’t the enemy. This vital antioxidant, in the right amount, helps keep us healthy. And, ironically, may help reduce diabetes risk.
But if you’ve been taking TOO MUCH selenium for a while, you could be in danger… and not even know it. In fact, of the 30.3 million Americans with diabetes, 7.2 million don’t have a clue they have it.
That’s why it’s so important to watch out for the warning signs of this silent killer…
9 easily-overlooked symptoms of diabetes
These symptoms are easy to miss. And they’re often just chalked up to something less serious.
But if you suspect you may have taken too much selenium, you’re going to want to keep an eagle eye out for these tell-tale signs of diabetes.
The top nine most common symptoms of type 2 diabetes are:
- blurry vision
- excessive thirst
- itchy skin
- slow healing and easy bruising
- increased urination
- frequent yeast infections
- fatigue
- tingling and numbness in your fingers, toes, hands, and feet
- constant hunger
If any of these symptoms seem familiar, see your doctor to be tested.
