The FDA just failed millions of Americans who take metformin for diabetes. And they’ve done it in the most shameful way possible.
This isn’t just about failing to spot a bad med. And it’s not only about failing to test drugs for contamination and other problems.
It’s WORSE. In fact, it’s an absolute outrage because the feds just sold you out to help their industry pals keep selling meds.
So today, let me give you what they won’t. The truth.
I’ve got the inside scoop on what happened with metformin. What went wrong. Plus, more importantly, I’ll share the precise steps you can take to help protect yourself.
How the feds failed on metformin
Make no mistake. The feds WEREN’T blindsided here. This wasn’t simple incompetence.
As I said, this is far worse. In this case, the FDA was well aware of the problem with metformin, a diabetes drug taken by millions for blood sugar control.
They knew tests had turned up traces of a chemical known to cause cancer. In fact, in December, the feds even declared an investigation with great fanfare.
The only trouble is they quickly announced it was a nothing sandwich. Earlier this year, the folks at the FDA gave the all-clear: False alarm. The drug is fine. Keep taking it. Nothing to see here.
Well, my friend, it turns out the false alarm itself was false. Because the same FDA that recently announced that the drug was safe has done an about-face. They just announced a voluntary recall.
What changed? Who knows. But what we DO know is that the drugmaker was able to cash in on a few more months of sales before it happened.
The agency now admits that some extended-release versions of metformin have high levels of N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA), a chemical linked to cancer risk.
It’s the same contaminant that led to the recall of a host of generic blood pressure meds over the past couple of years that I’ve warned you about right here in Healthier Talk.
In other words, the chemical they said wasn’t a problem in metformin a few months ago has turned out to be a problem after all.
Take these 2 steps to ditch the diabetes drugs
Of course, the feds suggest you can just switch to metformin from another maker or in another form. They also say the stuff they’re recalling now is safe.
And they claimed the blood pressure meds I just mentioned were safe too. Well, that is until they launched recall after recall of those, as well.
But I’ve got news for them. We’ didn’t fall for it last time. And we’re certainly NOT going to fall for it this time, either.
Let me give you two better options. For best results, don’t pick one or the other but choose BOTH…
- Supplement: Cinnamon, chromium, and berberine are all excellent natural options for blood-sugar control. Research has shown each of them to be effective at lowering blood sugar in some folks. Ask your doctor about them.
- Diet: Quit the junk carbohydrates. Carbs in food lead to sugar in the blood. Ditch all the empty ones from your diet, and cut way back on the rest. Your glucose will likely come right back under control when you do.
Do this right… commit to it… and you can talk to your doc about stepping down from meds like metformin or even quitting them altogether. That way, you won’t have to worry about the NEXT big recall.
