Most men now know that the majority of prostate cancer cases never need aggressive treatment. Gone are the days of a slash and burn approach with every diagnosis.
Still, when you hear your case IS in that “watch and wait” category, you, naturally, breathe a HUGE sigh of relief.
But it turns out there IS something you can do while you keep that watch. You can make a change that could help assure that the tumor NEVER grows and the cancer NEVER spreads.
Because the last thing you want is to have to go through the misery of treatment “down there.” Or have to suffer all the side effects that can follow.
And believe it or not, you’ll find this prostate cancer secret at the business end of your dinner fork.
The anti-cancer diet YOU need to know about
It’s always been a big mystery. Why do some low-risk, low-grade prostate cancer tumors suddenly turn dangerous?
Thankfully most never do go rogue. It’s as if the cancer is asleep. And with a little luck, it can stay that way pretty much forever.
But some tumors do wake up very suddenly, growing and spreading. And now, a new study reveals one thing that could be a trigger. It’s not something hidden in the prostate cancer itself, but rather in your diet.
We already know that what you eat plays a role in your risk for many diseases. That includes cancer, of course. But the new study dives into the specifics. And it reveals which diet choices could help ensure that a sleepy prostate tumor never wakes up.
It turns out the healthy and delicious Mediterranean diet could be the key. The closer you stick to this healthy lifestyle – built around seafood, poultry, olive oil, and plenty of fresh produce – the more likely your tumor will stay in snooze mode.
Go Mediterranean to slash prostate cancer risk
The researchers evaluated the diets of more than 400 men with low-grade prostate tumors. Those are the low-risk “watch and wait” cancers I mentioned earlier. The guys were specifically asked about 170 foods and types of foods.
The researchers then assigned each guy a “score” based on how closely their diet matched a Mediterranean diet. And when they crunched the numbers, a pattern emerged. For every check in the Mediterranean diet category, the chances of prostate cancer progression dropped by 10 percent.
And it’s easy to make an educated guess why. We already know cancer can be sensitive to your diet. And prostate cancer is especially notorious for having a huge sweet tooth.
For example, one study found that a soda habit could increase your risk of prostate cancer by 21 percent. Plus, sugar in other forms… including empty carbs that become sugar in your bloodstream… can ALSO feed that tumor.
And that’s exactly what’s missing from the Mediterranean diet. It’s naturally low in sugars, refined carbs and, technically, includes zero processed foods when you follow it to the letter. That essentially starves the tumor.
It can even help stop cancer from forming in the first place. So if you don’t have prostate cancer, there’s no reason to wait for a diagnosis to get started. Try it out now.
Along with cutting your cancer risk, this same delicious diet can help you lose weight, avoid diabetes, and slash your odds of heart attack and stroke, too. I recently wrote about the blood sugar benefits of this style of eating click here for a quick start guide to give it a try yourself.
