Here’s the thing about processed foods…
I love express lines at the supermarket, high-occupancy vehicle lanes on the highway, and ATMs at the bank.
The only thing better than saving money is saving TIME because that’s the one thing you can’t buy more of at any price.
But as much as I love convenience… as much as I get a THRILL out of saving TIME… there’s one shortcut you’ll never see me take.
I absolutely WON’T save time in the kitchen by using processed foods in place of a home-cooked meal.
It’s not just that they taste like something pulled out the trash bin. It’s that these foods are packed with dangerous ingredients.
And now new research shows some of them could even KILL you!
The DEADLY risks of processed foods
Three new studies just out show the real toll of relying on the convenience of ready-made canned, frozen, and packaged meals and ingredients.
Processed foods are swimming in chemicals –preservatives, dyes, flavor enhancers, and more – which can put you on the fast track to…
- heart disease
- cancer
- overeating
- obesity
And, yes, DEATH.
The first study, published in Cell Metabolism, finds folks eat an extra 500 calories a day without even realizing it when they switch to ultra processed foods.
The second study exposes the more long-term effects… including the biggest risk of all: end up six feet under long before your time.
For every 10 percent increase in super processed foods in your diet, your risk of dying early by heart disease jumps by 12 percent.
That’s a number that adds up fast, as the third study shows – and this leads to the most frightening statistic of all: Folks who east the most processed foods are 62 percent more likely to die prematurely.
The study found a higher risk of death from any cause, but the most common one wasn’t heart disease, as you might expect.
It was CANCER, no doubt linked not only to the chemical ingredients in processed foods but also the fact that many are based on simple ultra-refined carbs, which lead to the blood sugar spikes that many tumors depend on for fuel.
Slash your death risk with this delicious switch
So… how can you tell if what you’ve picked out are “ultra” processed foods? Easy: Just look at the ingredients. If you see more than five things listed and most of them are of the unpronounceable variety, it’s probably ultra-processed.
Put it back!
Stick to ingredients you can pronounce. Stick to what you know.
Better yet, stick to whole, fresh foods and “process” them yourself at home whenever possible. Select and season your own cuts of meat, and make your own salads and sides from fresh vegetable and fruits.
You can even make your own “from scratch” dressings and sauces. It’s easier than you think and the results are FAR tastier than store-bought, processed foods.
That’ll go a long way toward helping you and your family to eat healthier… and, as the new study show, it could quite possibly add YEARS to your life, too.
