You’re NOT paranoid. They really ARE out to get you. Well, sort of.
I’m sure you’ve had the sneaking suspicion that at least SOME of your prescription meds are rotten apples. That they’re not helping you.
Heck, even that some may be HURTING you.
Well, my friend, it’s not a suspicion anymore. A stunning new report exposes the ugly truth about the mass over-medication of America’s seniors.
Millions of older folks are being given drugs they shouldn’t be taking. Being prescribed meds that are more likely to cause harm than do any good.
So today, let me punch your ticket out of this mess. Because I’ve got the inside scoop on how to SPOT an unneeded drug. And tips on what to do about it when you do.
Chances are you’re taking unnecessary prescriptions
So now you might be wondering, “Could I QUIT my meds?” And the short answer is, yes.
But hold off on emptying the medicine chest into the toilet. First, it’s bad for the water. And second it’s not quite that simple.
But the new study does reveal how with a little time and effort you can work with your doctor to identify the rotten apple prescriptions. And that can save you cash on copays and, even more importantly, get rid of the miserable side effects that can come with them.
Odds are, there’s at least one drug you don’t need as the new study finds one in six prescriptions are likely doing more harm than good.
Plus, if you’re an older American, there’s a good chance you’re taking more than a few prescriptions. One study found 40 percent of seniors are on five or more meds. Which means most are taking at least ONE DRUG they shouldn’t be on.
The new study finds all those unnecessary meds are leading to serious side effects including…
- falls
- confusion
- hospitalizations
- death
But it gets worse. A study from 2015 found that while seniors are less than 15 percent of the population, they’re on 40 percent of all prescription meds.
Shockingly the average senior experiences 8.9 drug-related problems. And more than a quarter of those problems are caused by drugs they actually DIDN’T need.
Worse yet, more than a quarter of all senior hospitalizations are caused by their medications.
Work with your doc to ditch the drugs
But there IS a way off this crazy drug train. Many of today’s most common prescriptions are also among the least necessary… especially for older folks.
Drugs like daily aspirin for primary heart prevention, statins for cholesterol, and even many blood pressure meds, for example, often aren’t needed. In some cases, you don’t even need to replace them because they weren’t necessary in the first place.
Don’t quit any prescriptions on your own, of course. Just have the old “pros and cons” talk with your doctor. That’s especially important if you haven’t had it in a while since that conversation changes as you grow older.
Other drugs, including painkillers, PPIs, antidepressants, allergy meds, and more can sometimes be safely swapped for proven natural therapies.
Speak with your doctor, or consult with a holistic or naturopathic physician, to get ALL of your options.
