It’s that time of year again, my friend. Time to shed the extra winter weight.
But if you’re like me, there’s just one little problem standing in your way.
Those stubborn pounds are REFUSING to budge.
The truth is, it happens to the best of us. Losing the cold-weather padding gets just a little bit harder with each passing year.
But you CAN fight the trend.
And don’t worry, there’s a simple solution, no rabbit food diets, dangerous drugs, or risky surgeries required.
Instead, I’ve got a sneaky way to light a fire under those stubborn extra pounds. And it’s so safe and effortless you’re going to have a hard time believing it even works.
Well, that is UNTIL you see your spare tire melting away like an ice cube on a sizzling hot sidewalk in July.
Plus, researchers say it can send insulin resistance… and your risk for metabolic syndrome… plummeting at the same time.
Best of all? It’s downright DELICIOUS too!
Because it all comes down to an ordinary nutrient, you’ll find in lots of your favorite foods.
Potassium gave stubborn pounds the boot
Researchers didn’t set out to find this extraordinary weight-loss solution. They stumbled across it by accident.
But once they did, a lot of things started to fall into place.
At the start of the study, the volunteers, all of whom had metabolic syndrome, took all kinds of tests to measure their body composition and nutritional status.
Everyone was then asked to switch to a moderate… lower calorie and higher protein… Mediterranean-style diet. You know, like the kind I often talk about here in Healthier Talk.
The volunteers periodically met with a nutritionist to make sure they were sticking to the diet. And when the researchers checked back in on the participants a year later, they were blown away.
They had accidentally discovered something extraordinary.
The folks who lost the MOST amount of weight had something in common besides their sleek new figures.
During their year of dieting, they had ALSO eaten far more potassium-rich foods than their peers who hadn’t lost as much weight.
Stock up on summertime favorites to lose weight fast
The study wasn’t designed to measure potassium’s influence on weight loss, specifically. But that didn’t stop the link from being clear as day.
The volunteers who had the BIGGEST drops in Body Mass Index (BMI) also had the HIGHEST potassium intake.
The researchers even had to admit potassium was a much stronger predictor of weight loss than:
- how much sugar folks ate
- how many calories they had swallowed
There’s still a lot more to learn about the relationship between the mineral and accelerated weight loss.
But this isn’t even the first time we’ve seen the connection between potassium, lower BMI, and a lower risk for metabolic syndrome.
In fact, three previous studies uncovered similar links.
We aren’t exactly sure yet HOW potassium triggers faster weight loss. But we have some good ideas.
The mineral appears to reduce inflammation, influence energy balance, and improve insulin sensitivity. All of which could lead to easier, faster weight loss.
Ready to put this pound shedding secret to work in your own life?
That’s the best part. Because all you have to do is head to the grocery store and stock up on some delicious, potassium-rich produce.
To get the most bang for your buck, reach for summertime favorites watermelon and avocado. Both are packed with potassium.
For variety put some potassium-rich sweet potatoes, spinach, and white and black beans in your cart too. And before you know it, your winter layers will be replaced with the thinner, shorts-ready body you’re looking for.
