Ready to give up on the battle of the bulge? Or feel like the fat has won?
Well, it’s time to stop blaming yourself. Because it’s NOT your imagination.
Shedding that jiggly body fat HAS been an uphill effort. It turns out something hiding in the produce aisle at your local grocery store may have been sabotaging your hard work all along.
In fact, according to researchers, this same creepy chemical could be helping to drive the obesity crisis.
Sure, we probably could all do a bit better with our diets. But it’s likely not poor food choices alone that are behind our weight woes.
There’s another factor – one that’s literally been forced down our throats by Big Food.
The hidden danger in the ‘healthiest’ place
You’d think the produce aisle would be the healthiest and safest spot to shop in the supermarket. Unprocessed, packed with nutrition, and not an added sugar in sight.
But there’s another danger lurking in and under those colorful skins and peels. It’s a threat that’s in many ways worse. And the latest research reveals how it could put you on the path toward weight gain, obesity, and diabetes.
The problem is a pesticide used to help grow many of those conventional fruits and vegetables. Research reveals it can damage your precious brown fat.
We all have a small secret stash of this powerful brown fat hidden inside our bodies. It acts like a furnace in the basement, helping to turn up the heat on your metabolism, so you burn through calories more efficiently.
But a new animal experiment reveals we have a problem. Eating chlorpyrifos-laced produce is like throwing a bucket of ice water on that fire.
The pesticide turns down the heat, slows the burn, and, ultimately, increases the storage of excess calories. And that, of course, leads to us packing on more of the jiggly white body fat we all loathe.
Chlorpyrifos has been persistently linked to chronic health problems… especially in vulnerable children. That’s why the pesticide has already been banned in some places, such as California and Canada.
The EPA claims they’re bringing out the ban hammer too. But they’ve said that before, and yet the pesticide is STILL around.
The pesticide threat making us fat and sick
Even if the EPA finally follows up on its promises and goes through with banning chlorpyrifos, we still won’t be out of the woods. Because much of the produce in US supermarkets – fresh and frozen – is grown abroad. And despite our own pesticide rules being far too loose, outside of our borders they can be even laxer.
But even if we’re able to completely get rid of obesity-linked chlorpyrifos, it’s just one pesticide from a pile. The rest of the creepy chemicals we’re swallowing with every bite of our food are damaging too.
One study found that exposure to a variety of different pesticides not only can lead to weight gain and obesity but also raise your risk of diabetes. And that’s true even if you have no family history of the disease.
In fact, one disturbing meta-review of data from 21 studies found that pesticides in your food could increase your risk of developing type 2 diabetes by more than 60 percent.
Check out my earlier report 4 ways pesticide-laced produce is killing you for more on the disturbing connections between these chemicals and disease.
The best and easiest solution is to switch to organic produce. It won’t eliminate your exposure completely, of course. There’s still a danger of cross-contamination in growing, shipping, and even in the supermarkets.
Plus, pesticides can show up in other foods, too, such as meats.
But switching to organic can slash your exposure and help to minimize your risks. And when you do, you could find all those efforts you’ve been making to slim down and get healthier will FINALLY start to pay off.
