Andy Williams sure had it right. The holiday season truly is the “most wonderful time of the year.” And it’s just around the corner.
Soon, we’ll be surrounded by everything we love. Friends… family… and food. LOTS and LOTS of FOOD.
In fact, it seems like most of our holiday memories revolve around what was on the table, from huge rich dinner feasts to lavish dessert spreads. And don’t forget all the delicious seasonal snacks.
Is it any wonder Santa’s so rotund?
But what if there were a way to indulge in some tasty treats… enjoy them all fall and winter long… and NOT gain an ounce?
Well, friend, the trick to doing JUST that is what I’m going to share with you today.
And you’re not going to believe just how easy it is.
Put the brakes on holiday weight gain
OK, I admit this might just sound a little bit… well… nutty. But good ideas often do at first.
It turns out the secret to staying slim all holiday season long is NUTS.
You see, nuts aren’t just delicious and healthy. They could also be your secret weapon against packing on extra holiday pounds.
New research revealed that just a handful of nuts a day – as little as half an ounce – can put the brakes on weight gain. And even better, when you make munching on them a daily habit, they could slash your risk of ever developing obesity.
According to the researchers, walnuts will cut your risk of obesity by up to 15 percent. And other tree nuts, such as cashews and almonds, will slash that risk by a healthy 11 percent.
Now obviously, you won’t get these same benefits if you reach for the honey-roasted or candy-coated nuts. And those sugary holiday nut blends that hit stores this time of year won’t do the trick either.
In fact, all those added sugars and artificial ingredients will CAUSE weight gain and lead to obesity, not help you avoid it.
If you want the MOST benefits, look for plain old nuts. Raw and, if possible, right out of the shell is best.
But if you prefer them roasted, pick out a plain version. Or one dusted with a spice blend that contains no sugar, artificial flavors, or other unhealthy additives.
Stay full and satisfied all season long with nuts
Of course, this ISN’T a license to chow down on whatever you want. And it’s not a green light to eat HUGE servings of things just because nuts are used as an ingredient, either.
That’s not how this works.
Nuts fight weight gain when they replace something else that’s not as healthy. And they work so well because, unlike many other common snacks, they slash your appetite.
For example, when you have a hankering to nibble on something and turn to chips, it’s often a set up for failure. You know the drill. You eat your serving, but it’s never enough. And you just end up wanting MORE.
But when you eat nuts instead, you’re left feeling full and satisfied. That means instant willpower to resist overindulging in the endless parade of carb and sugar bombs you’ll be faced with all season long.
So go ahead and stock up and make nuts your go-to snack for the holidays and beyond.
