I’m interested in politics and in particular what medications our nominees are taking, because it gives me a great glimpse into their overall health.
Looking at someone’s meds is kind of like what movies promise gazing into a crystal ball will do for you. I can see into the future, but what I see are the potential health issues folks might begin to suffer with due to the drug mugging effect of their medications.
Because if you don’t put back into your body what medications steal from you then you could easily develop health problems, And those health problems are often get misdiagnosed as diseases that you don’t really have. Certain drugs can rob you of critical vitamins and minerals, leaving you sick without a clue why.
Taking a closer look at Senator Clinton’s meds
Let’s start with Senator Clinton.
The Democratic nominee, Senator Clinton has recently had some coughing spells, likely due to pneumonia. She takes Armour Thyroid which is for hypothyroidism. The Levaquin she takes is temporary, as well as the Clarinex which is used for her respiratory infection. Coumadin (warfarin), is taken daily for blood thinning or A-fib.
If I was having dinner with Senator Clinton, I would advise her to not order anything with avocados or onions. Both of these foods can cause clinically significant interactions with her warfarin. I would have her skip the grapefruit juice too, because it could affect the performance of the warfarin.
I’d also make sure Senator Clinton was taking her Armour Thyroid first thing in the morning. I’d remind her that milk or cream (such as with coffee) which contain calcium, shouldn’t be eaten for two hours after she takes her thyroid meds. I’d let Ms. Clinton know that selenium could be helpful for her, as it improves thyroid hormone activation, plus it’s a strong antioxidant so it should reduce her risk for future infections.
The warfarin she takes is an anticoagulant (blood thinner) sometimes used for A-fib. It’s a strong drug mugger of vitamin K, causing deficiency. But Senator Clinton should NOT supplement with K because it will inactivate her medication.
As for the Levaquin (levofloxacin), Senator Clinton risks harmful—and possibly irreversible—tendon or nerve damage. I’d explain to her she should be taking probiotics because they improve the function of thyroid hormones by 20 percent, while reducing her risk for stomach pain, diarrhea, constipation and immune dysregulation from the antibiotic she is taking. Because she’s under stress, and has low thyroid, I’d recommend Ashwagandha for her as well, taken at bedtime for restful sleep.
Taking a closer look at Mr. Trump’s meds
Now let’s take a look at what Mr. Trump is taking.
The Republican nominee takes “rosuvastatin,” a statin drug which goes by the brand name Crestor in the United States. His physician, Dr. Bornstein, has stated that Mr. Trump takes low-dose aspirin, which is typically used for blood thinning.

- Vitamin D
If I were to share I meal with Mr. Trump I’d explain to him that, over time, the nutrient depletion caused by his statin could cause memory problems, leg cramps, muscle aches, weakness, erectile dysfunction, shortness of breath or heart arrhythmia.
A deficiency of selenium could lead to reduced thyroid hormone. A deficiency of Vitamin D could impair his immunity. I would like to see Mr. Trump manage cholesterol with fish oils and exercise, not statins.
Aspirin could mildly deplete his vitamin C, iron, folate, and potassium levels resulting in fatigue, shortness of breath, pale skin, and methylation impairment.
For dinner with Mr. Trump, I would never agree to eat fast food, even though he has said he loves this nutritionally-naked food. In light of his diet, I would suggest Magnesium L-threonate at bedtime, perhaps 200 mg, which supports a healthy mood, muscular function and restful sleep.
