But it turns out slashing diet destroying foods from your shopping list isn’t the only way to scale down your waist size. Adding certain metabolism boosting foods to your menu can turbocharge your weight loss too.

Following are four metabolism boosters that can help you make the most out of your fat burning efforts.
The warm weather is already starting to show up in certain parts of the country. And that means your local farmers market and grocery store produce aisle are going to be crammed full of delicious seasonal fruit. And my favorite, by far, is watermelon.
This refreshing and delicious fruit practically screams summer. But it’s more than just tasty. Watermelon is brimming with citrulline, an amino acid that your body can metabolize into arginine
Arginine helps build lean, fat-burning muscle. Animal studies show it burns excess fat by increasing the activity of insulin and certain hormones in the body.
In one study, obese lab rats given an arginine supplement…
- shed 30 percent of their white fat
- increased fat burning muscle by 13 percent
- gained 34 percent more fat burning brown fat
Research suggests arginine may do the same for people.
For example, in a small double blind study, a supplement helped a group of post-menopausal women hold on to significantly more fat-burning muscle. In another, arginine increased muscle mass and strength in a group of elderly volunteers. And when a group of obese folks took a supplement for six months, their insulin resistance and body fat plummeted.

Beans are a terrific source of healthy, slow-burning carbs. Which means they help you feel fuller longer, so you eat less. But that’s not the only way they can help turbocharge your weight loss.
Protein puts beans at the top of the metabolism boosting foods list. They’re packed with it. And your body plows through far more calories burning protein than it does carbs or fat.
Experts say as a resistant starch, beans also help improve insulin sensitivity. Which means you end up storing less fat in your body. And the zinc and B vitamins beans provide boosts testosterone levels increasing your energy and ultimately fat-burning muscle.
Try to fit a serving of beans in every day. When possible opt for dried over canned. They require several hours of soaking first. But you’ll avoid the junk sodium that most canned beans come with, as well as hormone disrupting BPA.
If you’re living in the past and avoiding eggs because you fear they’re fattening or will raise your cholesterol, stop. It’s time to rethink your relationship with this nearly perfect food.
Whole eggs (both the whites AND the yolks) are packed with fat burning, belly filling protein which can actually help you LOSE weight. And you don’t need to worry about them significantly raising your cholesterol levels either. That old wives’ tale was disproven long ago.

Green tea is the perfect beverage to add to your weight loss routine. It’s rich in the potent antioxidant epigallocetchin gallate, or EGCG, which is behind the tea’s metabolism boosting benefits.
In one study researchers found EGCG increased fat oxidation by 33 percent through accelerated metabolism. In other words, it breaks down more stored fat for energy, supercharging fat burn.
Researchers say it’s best to sip on green tea before eating for maximum benefits. The EGCG in the tea can help deter fat cells from forming, while at the same time improving the burning of existing belly fat.
