It’s always great to get in early on something new and exciting. But when it comes right down to it, some of the best options for protecting our health aren’t exactly new or exciting.
They’re simple and time-tested. But don’t let that fool you into thinking these classic natural solutions aren’t as good. New research offers an important reminder that some of those humble basics are also some of the most powerful.
And one mineral, in particular, that’s available for just pennies a day, could help shield your health in two crucial ways:
- It could help fight off potentially deadly infections.
- It may help wipe out cancer cells.
Meaning MAGNESIUM is practically a miracle hiding in plain sight.
Sure, it might sound basic. But studies show a stunning 70 to 80 percent of older Americans don’t get anything close to what they need of this vital mineral each day.
That means it’s critical to make sure you’re not one of them.
The TRUE POWER of magnesium
We’ve ALL learned way more about the immune system than we ever expected we would need to over the past couple of years.
We know about antibodies. We learned about the memory B cells that make more antibodies when needed. And we found out about the T cells, which attack specific pathogens and some forms of cancer.
The new study finds magnesium is essential to that last one.
Those T cells have a protein on the surface called LFA-1. Researchers compared it to a “docking site” that allows them to stick to infected cells, cancer cells, and other cells you want gone.
Once attached with that LFA-1 dock, the T-cells can invade the bad cells and fight them off.
But there’s just one problem. Those docking sites are usually “closed” as the T cells travel around, and they can’t attach to anything when they’re in that inactive state.
That’s where magnesium comes into play. The mineral helps kick that LFA-1 into the open position, activating those T-cells so they can dock and get to work fighting the bad cells.
So you can see why it’s vital to make sure you’re NOT in that 70-80 percent of folks not meeting their magnesium requirements. Because it could be the key to ensuring that your immune system is armed, active, and ready to fight infections, cancer, and more.
Boost this mineral the RIGHT way
But that’s just ONE of the many jobs of magnesium. Believe it or not, the mineral has more than 300 other known functions in the body, playing a crucial role in everything from bone strength to heartbeat.
You can get more magnesium through your diet by focusing on the right foods.
For example, pumpkin and sunflower seeds are excellent sources and taste terrific on their own or tossed onto salads. You’ll also find magnesium in peanuts, almonds, and cashews.
But even then, you may fall short. This is why many folks may need a supplement. (I shared 6 common signs of magnesium deficiency in an earlier report.)
If that’s you, just make sure you get the proper form. Many of the cheaper supplements use magnesium oxide, which isn’t absorbed as well by your body.
Other forms typically cost just a little more but work far better. Magnesium citrate is one example, but there are some others. Your doctor can help you figure out which is best for you and how much you’ll need each day.
