Just a few months ago, I warned you about the exploding threat of Lyme disease. Cases of the mysterious and debilitating syndrome have skyrocketed.
And as Lyme-carrying ticks have started to spread into areas scientists never anticipated, the threat continues to grow. This past summer experts spotted the disease-carrying ticks in 83 counties across 24 states where they’d never been before.
And while the cold temperatures are keeping them at bay for the moment, that won’t last. Besides, Lyme disease can be difficult to diagnose. Which means it can live inside your body for years sapping you of energy and stretching your immune system to its limits.
And even after it’s spotted, you’re not out of the woods. Because Lyme is notoriously tough to treat.
In fact, up to 20 percent of folks end up battling the fatigue and joint pain of post-treatment Lyme disease syndrome (PTLDS) for months or even years after.
Antibiotics fail to cure Lyme disease in up to 20%
Up until now, if you developed Lyme disease your doctor would throw antibiotics such as doxycycline at the disease for a few weeks hoping they would work. And that’s it.
You can’t really blame him either. After all, he didn’t have any other real choices.
But the success rate with these drugs is shaky at best. Because often, dormant or very slow-growing “persister” forms of the Lyme bacteria remain behind. Which is why 10 to 20 percent of people remain uncured after treatment.
But a recent breakthrough at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health could change everything. And for the first time in a long time, there’s real hope for folks suffering with long-term Lyme disease symptoms.
Essential oils succeeded where antibiotics failed
The study, revealing a novel new treatment for Lyme, was published months ago in the journal Antibiotics. But I’m willing to bet you haven’t heard a peep about it.
And frankly, that’s not at all surprising. Because the solution isn’t yet another drug. It’s an all-natural approach using herb oils instead.
In other words, not the kind of thing which typically gets much mainstream media attention.
But the John’s Hopkins researchers say essential oils could hold the key to alleviating devastating Lyme symptoms which antibiotics have failed to tackle.
10 natural oils consistently killed Lyme bacteria
For the study, the scientists tested 35 different essential oils pressed from plants or their fruits. And lab tests revealed that 10 of the oils tested zeroed in on the persister Lyme disease bacteria slaying it in some cases within just seven days.
Among the winners were essential oils from…
- cinnamon bark
- myrrh trees
- garlic bulbs
- cumin seeds
- thyme leaves
- allspice berries
- spiked ginger lily
But that’s not the start of the story. Because it turns out this isn’t the first time the team uncovered natural solutions for treating Lyme.
Herb oils performed BETTER than antibiotics
Back in 2017, the same group from Johns Hopkins published a study revealing that certain essential oils performed better than drugs.
In lab testing they proved that oils from oregano, cinnamon bark, citronella, clove buds, oregano, and wintergreen all killed stationary phase Lyme bacteria even BETTER than daptomycin, the go-to antibiotic for treating Lyme disease.
The team plans to do more research and they hope to eventually move on to human trials. But if you or someone you care about is suffering from post-treatment Lyme disease syndrome now your best bet is to make an appointment to see naturopathic physician who is familiar with herbal medicine.
