That groaning noise you just heard?
It was mainstream medicine’s painful confession that they were wrong all along.
Because after completing a 10-week study, researchers reluctantly had to admit calorie counting to lose weight is a BIG bust.
But switching to low carb eating, on the other hand, can SUPERCHARGE your weight loss.
And frankly, I’m baffled why it took them so darn long.
Do you lose MORE with low carb?
For the new trial, the researchers recruited 234 overweight and obese folks who were interested in losing weight.
The volunteers switched to a strict, low calorie and moderate carb diet. The goal was to have them shed 12 percent of their weight over 10 weeks. And 164 of the group lost the weight and moved on to phase two.
In phase two, the researchers randomly assigned the remaining folks to one of three groups…
- low carb
- moderate carb
- high carb
The volunteers on the low carb diet got 20 percent of their calories from healthy carbs such as veggies, fruits, and beans. A full 60 percent came from fat from meat, milk, cheese, and nuts. And the remaining 20 percent was from protein.
(Bet that sounds familiar. It’s how I’ve been encouraging you to eat ALL along.)
The moderate carb diet was 40 percent carbs and 40 percent fat. And the high carb eaters chowed down on 60 percent carbs and 20 percent fat.
Supercharge your metabolism with low carb eating
The researchers were inexplicably surprised when after 20 weeks the low carb folks were burning through MORE calories than the other groups.
And we’re not talking about a little difference here either.
They were plowing through an average of 250 more calories a day than the high carb dieters were. And on average, 111 more than the moderate carb folks were.
When you do the math, the researchers say that would add up to about 20 extra pounds of weight loss over three years.
That’s already an impressive number. But if you have MORE to lose… or add in a few more metabolism boosting tricks… that number could go up.
Avoid belly-fat building junk carbs
So why does it work?
Well, as I’ve explained before when you fill up on low-quality, highly processed, junk carbs it causes your insulin levels to skyrocket. This in turns sends an emergency signal to your body to pull BACK on calorie burning.
And that means that instead of using them up as energy more of those calories are being stored away as unwanted fat. And often in the places we hate seeing it the most, such as around our middles.
In other words, if you want to lose weight STOP counting calories. Instead, stick with what I’ve been advising all along. Switch to a low carb diet.
Slice the junk carbs off your menu and concentrate on healthy carbs like the ones you’ll find in organic vegetables, fruits, and beans. Plus eat plenty of high-quality fats such as grass-fed organic beef, free-range chicken, dairy, and nuts.
