If you’ve heard it once, you’ve heard it a thousand times.
“There’s no magic bullet for losing weight.”
But would you settle for a magic seed instead?
A tiny little seed that works with your body to encourage it to LET GO of stubborn fat. So you can FINALLY lose the weight. And stay slim, too.
Sound too good to be true?
That’s what I thought. Well, until a new study crossed my desk that made me change my mind.
And don’t worry, this isn’t some exotic herb you can only find on one mountaintop in Siberia. And you won’t have to travel to the rainforest to get your hands on it either.
In fact, you’ve probably heard of this simple seed before. And you likely can pick it up at your local supermarket.
Believe it or not, I’m talking about flaxseed. But how this humble seed helps fights obesity may surprise you as much as finding out it’s flax.
Flaxseed… good for your gut in more ways than one
The study which opened my eyes was published in the journal American Journal of Physiology-Endocrinology and Metabolism.
Researchers were interested in how diet can affect gut flora. So they divided a bunch of mice into groups and fed them four different diets…
- Standard mouse chow diet (control group)
- High-fat/no fiber diet
- High-fat/indigestible fiber diet
- High-fat/10 percent flaxseed fiber
After 12 weeks, the researchers took a look at what was going on in the bellies of the mice.
It will come as no surprise that the critters in the high-fat/no fiber group didn’t fare very well. They had far fewer good bacteria and lower levels of healthy fatty acids. Plus, their obesity-linked bacteria levels were sky high.
Both the indigestible fiber and flaxseed fiber groups had a healthier belly bug balance than the control and no fiber mice.
But the mice which got the flaxseed in their chow REALLY stood out.
On their high-fat with flax diet, they…
- were more active
- gained less weight
- had the healthiest gut bacteria
PLUS, they had better glucose control and higher healthy fatty acid levels.
In other words, they were healthier from whiskers to tail.
Flaxseed benefits YOU from head to toe
Researchers believe we owe all the benefits to the breakdown of the flaxseed fiber. As the flax ferments, it drives fatty acid levels up which then sends fat production plummeting.
Add that to the other healthy metabolic changes… faster fat burning, better blood glucose control, and more energy… and you’ve got an obesity buster in a little tiny seed.
But even folks who aren’t worried about their weight or blood sugar can benefit from this super seed. Because a stack of other research has shown adding flaxseed to your diet is a good idea…
Supports heart health: Not only is flaxseed packed with the omega-3s your heart needs, study after study has shown they can help lower cholesterol AND blood pressure, even in folks who haven’t responded well to drugs.
Fights inflammation: Flaxseed is an excellent source of lignans and alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), two compounds shown to help reduce the systemic inflammation which contributes to chronic diseases including arthritis, Parkinson’s, and Alzheimer’s.
Reduces cancer risk: Studies have linked the lignans and ALA found in flaxseed to a reduced risk for breast, prostate, colon, and skin cancers.
Provides needed nutrients: Flaxseed is loaded with a bunch of necessary nutrients including B-vitamins, calcium, potassium, magnesium, and more.
Call it a magic bullet or a magic seed. But any way you sprinkle it flaxseed can help you manage your weight and feel great.
You can sprinkle the crushed seeds into soup, salad, oatmeal, yogurt, and more. Plus, they make an excellent substitute for breadcrumbs and can be mixed into doughs and sauces.
So go ahead and work flaxseed into your diet starting TODAY.
