You know the drill. Sugar is unhealthy.
It causes inflammation. It messes with your gut. It feeds cancer cells.
But there’s one simple sugar we’ve been telling you about for nearly a decade that’s the exception to the rule. And that’s d-mannose.
D-mannose is naturally present in small quantities in the human body. It may sound familiar because we’ve been recommending mannose for bladder and urinary tract infections for many years.
It has the unique ability to help flush E. coli bacteria from your system. And since very little is metabolized by the body, in small quantities, it shouldn’t affect blood sugar, so it’s typically even safe for diabetics.
But now researchers say mannose may have another trick up its sleeve. And this time it might help save your life.
I’ll explain further in just a moment. But first, let’s take a quick look at the connection between glucose and cancer.
Cancer cells gobble up glucose
We obtain glucose, another simple sugar, from foods that we eat. Our bodies use the glucose for energy. But when we get too much of it, our risk for many chronic diseases starts to rise including type 2 diabetes and cancer.
As I mentioned earlier cancer cells LOVE glucose. They gobble the stuff up, using it to grow stronger and spread.
But eliminating ALL glucose from your diet not only would be impossible. It would be deadly. All the other cells in your body rely on glucose for fuel too.
In other words, too little glucose, you starve your healthy cells. Too much glucose, you feed cancer cells. It’s a fine line, that’s far too easy to cross.
But that’s where mannose comes in.
Mannose starved cancer cells to death
When British researchers gave d-mannose to mice with cancer, something stunning happened. A breakthrough that could help save lives.
The SAME receptors that take up glucose picked up some of the mannose. And this immediately slashed the amount of glucose that was available for the cells to feed on.
And here’s where it gets SUPER interesting.
Although healthy cells dine on glucose, they aren’t the gluttons that cancer cells are. So they had plenty of fuel to function and stay healthy.
The cancer cells, on the other hand, began to starve to death.
Chemo and mannose combo SHRUNK tumors
The scientists were so impressed with their results they took things one step further. They fed mannose to mice who were receiving chemotherapy for cancer. And something incredible happened.
When combined with chemo drugs, the mannose didn’t just SLOW the cancer growth. Together, mannose and chemo formed a dream team that made the chemotherapy MORE effective.
- reduced the size of tumors
- extended the lifespans of the mice
Now this research is fresh out of the lab. Your doctor may not have even heard about it yet. And there’s a lot more we need to figure out.
But it’s VERY promising. And since it is an all-natural approach without any known side effects, you may be able to start taking advantage of it nearly right away.
So go ahead and show those cancer cells who is boss. Ask your oncologist about working this “good sugar” into your anti-cancer routine.
You can find d-mannose online or anywhere vitamins and supplements are sold.
