Most of us can rattle off the most common coronavirus risk factors in our sleep at this point. They include heart disease, asthma, kidney disease, COPD, diabetes, and advanced age.
But researchers say there’s another risk factor that’s been hiding in plain sight this whole time. And a new study reveals this hidden threat – one that millions of Americans routinely ignore – could make a life or death difference if you catch the virus.
But there’s good news too. This risk is something you CAN often control.
And today, I’m going to share with you the simple steps you can take that could help reduce your risk of facing this hidden threat yourself.
It’s something you’re going to want to start to keep an eye on anyway. Because it’s not just a factor for COVID-19 infection. It plays a critical role in your overall health and longevity, too.
COVID-19 complications soar with high glucose
Diabetes is a major risk factor for coronavirus complications and death. We all know that at this point. But troubling new research reveals how you could face those same soaring risks even if you’ve never been diagnosed with diabetes.
It’s all about your blood sugar. And unless you have diabetes, chances are you’ve never given yours a second thought.
But it’s time to change that. And to reign that blood sugar in even if you aren’t diabetic. And I’ll share an easy way to do exactly that in just a moment.
First, the new study finds that high blood sugar levels even without diabetes could more the DOUBLE your odds of the biggest COVID-19 complications, including:
- ICU care
- ventilation
- death
Some of the folks that the researchers looked at may have had undiagnosed diabetes (one more reason to commit to getting your annual blood work done). And in some cases, the infection itself could’ve caused hyperglycemia or raised blood sugar.
But others were likely people who simply weren’t too worried about blood sugar since they didn’t have diabetes. So they never worried about keeping it under control as a result.
Seize control over your blood sugar
Don’t let this be YOUR story. And not just because of this newly uncovered risk. Even without a diabetes diagnosis, chronic, higher-than-normal blood sugar can set the stage for metabolic syndrome, dementia, heart failure, heart disease, and early death.
You don’t need to take meds to wrestle your blood sugar back into submission. And although supplements such as l-carnitine, berberine, chromium, and cinnamon could safely help reign in your numbers, you don’t even have to take them either.
Because the REAL key to controlling sugar IN the blood is to keep it OUT of your diet in the first place.
That means restricting not just sugar itself but also the empty carbs that raise blood glucose. Especially be wary of the sneaky ones you just never think about, like bagels, sweetened coffee drinks, snack crackers, muffins, gummy fruit snacks, sandwich bread, and pretzels.
Plus, eat more fiber, especially the kind you’ll find in beans, whole fruits, and vegetables. (Make one of those avocado and you can kill two birds with one stone by restoring your insulin sensitivity.) Soluble fiber slows the absorption of sugar in the blood, making it one of the easiest ways to gain quick and natural control over glucose levels.
