People are finally starting to figure out that they need to eat less sugar… so what are the food manufacturers doing?
They’re sneaking even MORE of this garbage into their products!
Researchers studying food consumption say sugar intake has skyrocketed, and it’s not because people are putting more in their coffee. It’s because the consumption of added sugars — sugar, high fructose corn syrup, corn sweeteners and such in packaged foods — has gone up, up and away.
The researchers looked at data on 6,000 people and divided them into five groups based on how much added sugar they sucked down daily. Those on the high end of the scale were choking back 46 teaspoons of added sugars every day.
That’s three pounds of sugar a week! At some point, you should just consider moving to Brazil and building a hut out of sugarcane.
The researchers also found that, on average, added sugars make up 16 percent of our daily calories, according to the study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
When I say "our" I really mean "your," because I’m not eating any of it — so someone else is getting my share. And here’s what else they’re getting: Heart disease, obesity, diabetes and early death.
Better him than me.
The researchers in the new study also found that people with the highest sugar consumption had the highest cardiovascular risk factors… but you’d have to be a soda company executive to be surprised by that bit of news.
I’ve said it before, and I hope you’ve listened: The only way to live a long and healthy life is to ditch the sugar in all its forms… forever and ever, no exceptions, period, amen.
