Somewhere out there, a drug company boss is weeping right now. Or someone from the board is showing him the door.
You see, they’ve long claimed that ordinary fish oil supplements do NOTHING. Well, except give you “pricey pee,” that is.
They’ve insisted if you want the heart-protecting benefits of omega-3 fatty acids, the ONLY thing that works is a synthetic prescription “drug” version of the real thing.
They’ve pumped MILLIONS into developing these expensive drugs. They’re hoping to reap BILLIONS in profits. And, so far, it’s working.
But this sly little plan to turn a humble and inexpensive supplement into a big-ticket drug just hit a massive roadblock. There’s new research just out that flies in the face of EVERYTHING they’ve told us.
Because it turns out ordinary fish oil supplements DO work.
And today, I’m going to share with you exactly how to reap their life-saving benefits without shelling out big bucks for a big-name drug.
Fish oil gets a boost from new research
After years of denials, the drug industry now admits that omega-3s work. But only if they hit the purity levels of a synthetic version. You know, the kind THEY produce.
In other words, drug makers want you to believe they’ve improved on nature.
But they’re not just arrogant, they’re also dead wrong. The all-natural omega-3s found in fish oil work just fine, delivering REAL protection from DEADLY heart problems. And that includes the ones we fear most.
The analysis of 86 clinical trials finds that giving 1,000 people fish oil supplements for four years could prevent…
- 6 major heart problems including heart attack
- 3 deaths from heart disease
Given that so many studies use LOW levels of omega-3 fatty acids, my guess is that the true benefits could be even higher… potentially MUCH higher. In fact, one study found that omega-3s could cut your risk of a heart attack by as much as 40 percent.
Make the most of omega-3 benefits
The researchers behind the new study claim to also have found a downside. They report there was a very small increase in the risk of prostate cancer.
But that’s been looked at more closely by other researchers, and it turns out the opposite might be the case.
For example, a study out of Iceland found older men who take fish oil at least once a week have a 57 percent LOWER risk of advanced prostate cancer. Another that tracked guys for six years, found no increase in prostate risk. And one published late last year confirmed no link between prostate cancer and EPA and DHA, the two main fatty acids in fish oil.
What’s more, studies have also found that omega-3s can protect against breast and colon cancers.
In other words, we should take those new prostate findings with a big old grain of salt for now.
Of course, as the researchers behind the first study note, it’s always good to get your omega-3s from your diet if you can. Mackerel, salmon, cod liver oil, herring, oysters, and sardines will get you the most bang for your omega-3 buck.
But if you don’t get enough omega-3s in your diet… or if you just plain don’t like seafood… don’t be bullied into a “prescription” omega-3. As the science shows, a real deal, affordable, fish oil supplement offers plenty of benefits too.
