Decades of relentless marketing has almost everyone convinced. There’s nothing better on a hot summer day than a tall, cool glass of diet soda.
I’m not ashamed to admit those commercials tempt me too. After all, the golden-brown cola splashing down over perfectly chilled ice cubes and the beads of water glistening on the glass look so refreshing.
Sure, we all KNOW diet soda isn’t exactly healthy. But with no sugar or calories to contend with, it sure is easy to convince yourself it’s mostly a harmless habit.
Now, the latest research reveals the truth. A key ingredient lurking inside most diet soft drinks is hiding a dangerous and potentially DEADLY secret.
Instead of leaving you feeling refreshed, THIS diet soda ingredient could give you cancer.
The diet sweetener with a bitter side
You’ve probably heard more than a few negatives over the years about the no-calorie sweetener aspartame. And it’s not just its nasty aftertaste that’s a problem.
Aspartame has been linked to everything from migraines to mood changes. Yet, it’s not just diet soda getting the aspartame treatment. In fact, the food industry continues to dump it into anything and everything they can think of.
After all, aspartame is a quick, cheap way to boost sweetness without adding calories. And “diet” foods are a HUGE money-making industry.
Now, the latest research appears to confirm one of the most troubling aspartame links of all. Tests on rodents found that consuming the sweetener is indeed linked to cancer.
Rodents given aspartame developed tumors. But it gets worse. Some of the babies of pregnant rats given the sweetener developed cancer too.
The team behind the new study calls this discovery “very worrisome” and “of great importance for public health.” Personally, I call it terrifying. Especially when you consider at least 24 percent of American’s who drink soft drinks choose diet soda.
The researchers are urging public health officials to reexamine the use of the additive. But to be perfectly honest with you, I think Hades might freeze over first. So that means it’s time to enforce your own ban.
But don’t just replace the diet colas with one of the growing number of soft drinks with other zero-calorie sweeteners. Because the truth is, in many cases, they aren’t much better. Some might even be worse.
Dump the diet soda TODAY
And honestly, even if they found the PERFECT sweetener, let’s face facts. Most soft drinks, both regular and diet, are a bubbling concoction of creepy chemicals, including risky flavoring compounds, coloring agents, and preservatives.
All of those additives are bad for you. And some of THOSE chemicals have been linked to cancer, too.
Then there’s the most infuriating part of “diet” soda. It’s NOT even an effective way to diet. People who drink the stuff rarely lose any weight. Some gain it.
