Put down the soda. And step away from the can.
Diet sodas and other artificially sweetened drinks are likely ruining your diet. But even worse, they’re sabotaging your HEALTH.
They’re packed with creepy chemicals, have zero nutritional value, and can cause serious tummy troubles.
Heck, they’ve even been linked with weight gain, rather than loss!
But that’s not the worst of it. Far from it.
In fact, if you haven’t given up diet drinks yet, there’s some shocking news that might help you FINALLY kick the habit.
A new study has revealed artificially sweetened drinks such as diet sodas, teas, or juice drinks could send your stroke risk SOARING.
Diet drinks linked to a 23% jump in stroke risk
The massive study tracked more than 81,700 women between the ages of 50-79 for nearly 12 years. And what they learned was shocking.
The women were divided into two groups. Group One drank less than one artificially sweetened diet drink per week. And Group Two drank two or more PER DAY.
The researchers expected diet drinks to be linked to some health issues, of course. But NO ONE was prepared for what they uncovered.
Shockingly the diet drink addicts were…
- 23% more likely to have a stroke
- 31% more likely to have a stroke caused by a blood clot
- 29% more likely to develop heart disease
- 16% more likely to DIE of any cause
Now I know what you’re probably thinking.
“Sure, ladies who are drinking diet soda to lose some extra pounds are probably more prone to health problems.”
But the truth is the women who had the HIGHEST risk were those who had no history of heart disease or diabetes.
And perhaps most tragic of all, the ladies who were the most overweight were the MOST likely to suffer a clot-based stroke.
So instead of helping them reach a healthy weight, diet drinks may have DOUBLED their risk of stroke.
Diet drinks linked to OTHER health issues
And of course, there’s ALREADY a stack of research against drinking diet sodas.
For example, the University of Texas study that found that folks who drink two or more diet drinks a day had a 500 percent greater increase in waist size compared to people who avoided them.
Or the study presented at the 100th annual meeting of the endocrine society last year. Researchers confirmed that sucralose-sweetened diet foods are linked to triple the risk of diabetes.
But if you want to avoid the sugar, and still have something pleasant to drink you DON’T have to resort to slurping down artificially sweetened diet drinks.
Try sipping on herbal, green, or black teas instead. You can drink them hot or cold. And you can jazz things up with frozen fruit or spices such as cloves, ginger, or cinnamon.
Miss the fizz? Try seltzer or sparkling water. A squeeze of lemon or lime, cucumber or fruit slices, or muddled mint will turn it into a treat every bit as tasty as a diet soda.
Don’t risk sending your stroke soaring. Ditch the diet drinks and opt for something healthier instead.
