Well… that’s gonna sting: It turns out one of the most popular drugs in the nation for one of the MOST common conditions in the world is a great, big flop.
This top-selling antidepressant drug just flunked a major study. According to the research, it does little to nothing to relieve depression for most people for weeks or even months at a time.
And there’s every reason to believe the problem isn’t just with this med alone. It could be with the entire CLASS of drug, taken every day by millions of Americans.
Many of those folks probably already suspected the meds aren’t helping a whole lot with their depression.
But now the new study confirms it’s not just a suspicion.
And the truth is you may be much better off trying something else – just about anything else – to ease your own mood problems.
But I’m not here today with “just about anything else.”
I’ve got an A+ solution that could succeed where these meds fail… finally giving you the lift you’ve been looking for.
Popular antidepressant flunks major study
The new study out of the U.K. put the SSRI drug sertraline – better known as Zoloft – up against a placebo.
You’d think you’d pop the pill and the clouds of depression would start to part, right?
Nope.
- After a day or two…
- After a week or two…
- After a month or two…
Nothing, nothing, nothing.
Only by week 12… THREE MONTHS after starting on it… did it start to work. And even then it only helped a little. The researchers found only “weak evidence” it helped with depression after 12 weeks compared to a placebo.
Ready for the REAL shocker?
Despite the big FAIL, the researchers behind the study claim it might still help anyway. They said that small benefit could be “clinically meaningful” and found it helps with anxiety.
Since anxiety often comes with depression, that’s a big plus as far as they’re concerned. “They work, just in a different way than we had expected,” the researchers announced to the Daily Mail newspaper.
Looks to me like it’s not just a different WAY of “working.” The researchers appear to have an entirely different DEFINITION of “working,” too.
In fact, they’ve twisted the meaning to make a failed drug look like less of a failure.
Ditch depression safely without side effects
It’s not just this med either.
Many antidepressants have been approved based on conflicted industry-funded studies. But when they’re later put through the paces of truly independent rigorous testing, they often come up short.
Depression is a BIG deal. It’s an illness just like any other. And just like you’d never leave a broken bone or a heart condition untreated, neither should you ignore your depression.
But heavy-duty drugs with heavy-duty side effects that DON’T actually work aren’t the answer.
Here’s a better solution: Curcumin. This stuff is a rising superstar of natural medicine, and for good reason. It fights inflammation, eases pain, protects the arteries, and cuts heart risk.
But it’s got one more benefit that may be bigger than all the rest. It’s a powerful brain-booster, not only cutting the risk of cognitive struggles in seniors but also DIRECTLY fighting off common mood disorders… including depression.
In one study, curcumin went head-to-head against the antidepressant drug fluoxetine (aka top-selling Prozac) and worked nearly as well, but without the side effects.
Other safer alternatives to try instead of failed drugs include the probiotic Lactobacillus plantarum, resveratrol, and B vitamins.
