Like millions of older Americans, you want to avoid one of the worst things age can throw at you. You’re hoping for a way to stop cognitive decline before it starts and head dementia off at the pass.
Maybe you’ve watched a loved one or friend fight this devastating battle already. Or you’ve just heard the horror stories.
Either way, instead of helping you build a safe prevention plan using proven natural approaches, mainstream medicine is proposing more heavy-duty pills.
They’ve cooked up a crazy plan to pump you full of SSRI antidepressants based on some of the WORST evidence you could imagine.
Yes, they’ve turned your worst nightmare into yet another drug industry sales opportunity. Knock, knock, it’s Big Pharma calling.
My advice? Don’t open the door. Because I’ve got something better to share with you, that’s safe and natural and could give your brain exactly the boost it needs.
The “dementia drug” NO ONE asked for
Here’s a fact the mainstream really doesn’t like to discuss. Antidepressants aren’t even very good for depression in many cases, much less anything else.
As far as I’m concerned, we should be severely limiting their use, especially given the long-term risks such as heart problems. But instead, the mainstream’s doing the opposite.
They’re working hard to give these meds to MORE people with LESS evidence. And they’re pushing antidepressants for everything from digestive disorders to chronic pain. Now, they claim, the drugs can help the aging brain.
Don’t get me wrong. I totally get why folks would be tempted. These conditions tend to have frustratingly few mainstream treatment options. So when a doc says, “Hey, there’s something else we can try,” desperate patients naturally think it’s worth a shot.
And let’s face it, not many conditions can make you feel more desperate than the fear you could be at risk for dementia. So if a doc gives you the “hey, there’s something” line, you’re not only all ears… you might be ready, willing, and able to try it out before he even tells you what it is.
Support your brain NATURALLY instead
But in this case, don’t even bother.
Because, despite the headlines and hype, the study is looking like yet another empty promise from mainstream medicine.
They tested the SSRI drug escitalopram (aka Lexapro) in older folks who didn’t have dementia. In other words, they were HEALTHY people.
The ones stuffed full of SSRI drugs did end up with slightly lower levels of beta-amyloid. This damaged protein turns up in the brains of people with Alzheimer’s disease.
But that’s not as impressive as it might sound.
The jury is still out. More research is needed. But IF the drugs actually do lower levels of the damaged proteins, they can get in line. A number of promising drugs have targeted beta-amyloid already.
Some of them have even cut the levels dramatically. But they didn’t deliver any real world results such as stopping dementia or improving memory.
And there’s NO PROOF antidepressants will help in those key areas, either. So don’t waste your time and risk the side effects. Instead, stick to what we know is safe and been shown to work.
Natural options such as omega-3 fatty acids, B vitamins, and curcumin have all been shown to protect the aging brain. And last year, scientists found a nutritional “cocktail” of seven natural compounds that led to greater cognitive function and higher brain efficiency in seniors over two years.
