Here’s a little test. Name the deadliest form of cancer.
I bet you got it right.
It’s lung cancer, of course, which is responsible for some 135,000 U.S. deaths this year alone.
But now try answering this. What’s number two on the list?
Most people can’t name this one. You might think it’s breast cancer, given how much attention it gets. Or maybe prostate cancer, which has its own annual awareness campaign coming up next month.
But it’s not either of those.
Colon cancer kills some 1,000 Americans every week. And unlike many other forms of the disease that are declining, colorectal cancers are actually rising in some groups.
Now, new research reveals one BIG reason this disease may be so deadly.
More importantly, it also shows an easy step you can take today to stop this thing BEFORE it ever grows into a threat.
Colon cancer “fertilizer” migrates from the mouth
A lot of cancers grow very slowly. You might have a hidden tumor somewhere right now. And in many cases, they’ll never pose a threat.
But sometimes, these cancers pull a dirty trick. They find a weapon inside your body, then use it against you.
That’s where this new study comes into the picture because it reveals how colon cancer has found one of these secret weapons. It’s something you have hiding in your body right now in an unexpected place.
It’s in your MOUTH.
The new study finds that certain oral bacteria… specifically ones behind many forms of gum disease… may find a path further into your body and make it down into your colon where they get hijacked by a tumor.
The colon cancer cells can pluck these Fusobacterium nucleatum bugs right out of your bloodstream. Then they manipulate the bacteria to activate specific nearby proteins helping the colon cancer grow more quickly.
Drive down risk with THIS routine
This was a lab study on cell cultures, not a human study. So it’ll take more research before we can confirm that the bugs transform into “colon-cancer superfuel” inside the HUMAN body too.
But we do know this: Many of the bacteria in dental plaques… including the bacteria at the heart of the new study… can use bleeding gums to slip inside the body.
Then, once inside, they can cause serious damage. Oral bacteria in the body could raise your risk of heart disease, irregular heartbeat, cancer, diabetes, stroke, Alzheimer’s, and more.
But don’t panic. It’s a pretty easy risk to cut. In fact, you ALREADY know how to do it. And that’s by regular and thorough brushing and flossing. No shortcuts!
But don’t mess around with fluoride toothpaste and rinses. Get one of the safer and more natural options, or one with xylitol.
Better yet, try the cheapest and most effective option of all, making your own. Just mix a little baking soda with three percent hydrogen peroxide until you get just the right texture, then brush away.
Some folks also like to rinse with a mix of one-part hydrogen peroxide and three parts water. Make sure it’s no higher than three percent, and just like with commercial rinses, don’t swallow it.
Sticking to a regular dental routine could help reduce your risk of all kinds of illnesses. And now we know it could help drive down your colon cancer risk too.
