Ladies, this might be the cruelest form of sexism of all. And that’s because it doesn’t even come from a guy. It’s your own body being a bore.
Cognitive decline hits women earlier, harder, and more frequently. And it only gets worse as we get older. In fact, close to two-thirds of all Alzheimer’s patients are women.
Now, the latest research reveals just what it is we’re up against. It shows just how blindingly fast it can all happen.
How one day everything can seem normal. But practically the next, you’re speeding through cognitive decline, fading fast with every day that passes.
But I’m not here with BAD news. Just the opposite, actually. Because the study also reveals two crucial factors:
- WHAT to look for
- WHEN to act
And those two priceless details could give you the edge you need to protect your cognition and save your brain. So you can enjoy your Golden Years to the fullest for many more years to come.
The “brain shrink” link to faster cognitive decline
Early on, especially in late middle age and the early senior years, women tend to run rings around men on cognitive tests. Sorry, guys. That’s just the reality.
But ladies, don’t let that lead go to your head. Because the new study shows how if you’re not careful, that advantage won’t last. Over time, women tend to show a sharper, steeper annual drop in scores on global cognition, executive function, and memory tests.
Now the new study reveals a likely cause. And you should brace yourself because the source kind of sounds like the plot of a 1950s horror flick…. “The Incredible Shrinking Brain!”
That’s right, a swiftly shrinking brain is probably the cause of that accelerated decline.
Now, to be honest, as scary as it sounds, a little “brain shrink” is perfectly normal as we get older. But there’s a fine line between a little and too much. And the greater amount of gray matter you lose, the more likely you’ll suffer from cognitive problems, including dementia.
In the new study, women were burning off those brain cells at an alarming rate. They suffered from a much faster rate of “shrinkage” than the men. And that leads to that more rapid drop in brainpower.
Spot slips early to stop the slide
No one should ever ignore even a hint of a serious health problem. But the reality is we’re all guilty of it from time to time. We put off doctor appointments and delay tests. And it’s often because we dread what we might learn.
That’s always a mistake. And in this case, it could have massive repercussions for older women.
So if you think you’re losing a little mental speed or you notice you’re having moments of forgetfulness or confusion, don’t wait. Give your doctor a call as soon as possible for some testing.
He can help you determine if it’s just some everyday “senior moments” your battling or if you have something else going on.
Early detection gives you more time to act. And while no drug can stop cognitive decline or dementia, there ARE steps you can take to slow it down… sometimes nearly completely.
One study on older women last year found 150 mg per day of resveratrol reversed the damage of 10 YEARS of aging on the brain. Plus, it led to major improvements in several critical cognitive skills, including all-important executive function. I’ve got all the details right here.
Some foods are proven to slow brain shrink and could help protect cognition too. Click here to discover what they are for free.
