The old gray matter just isn’t working quite like it used to. There have been some brain hiccups and stutters. And when that happens, they’ll tell you that’s it – that’s all she wrote.
And you might even believe them, too. After all, you’ve seen it happen to other people. They reach a point where the mind starts to slip, and…
Well, we all know what happens next.
But I’ve got news for you today, my friend. This ISN’T it. It’s NOT the end of clear thinking for you. And you can help STOP that “slip.”
None of what we’ve all seen happen to others has to happen to YOU. New research just out backs two potent natural therapies for older folks already suffering from the early phases of cognitive struggles.
2 nutrients PROVEN to fight cognitive decline
This new analysis examines 18 studies on natural therapies for older folks already suffering from cognitive decline. And every single one was gold-standard research…. randomized, controlled clinical trials.
In other words, no lab-dish experiments or critter tests in the bunch. And most of them, unfortunately, came up empty… except for two.
Researchers found two sets of nutrients that helped these desperate seniors with their cognitive decline. And if you’re a regular Healthier Talk reader, I’m guessing neither one will come as a surprise to you.
- the omega-3 fatty acids you find in fish oil
- a blend of B vitamins
Both supplements helped reduce cognitive decline in seniors already suffering from the condition. The B vitamins were most effective in folks with high homocysteine levels. Homocysteine is an inflammation marker linked to serious health problems, including dementia.
Beef up brain health with supplements
More research is needed, of course. But what we’ve seen so far is ALREADY exciting. And there’s no reason to think future studies won’t get similar results.
Plus, I’ve seen other research on BOTH of those natural therapies for cognitive decline. And that includes some I’ve shared with you right here in Healthier Talk.
For example, one found that omega-3 fatty acids increase blood flow to the parts of the brain needed for memory and cognition. More blood means more of the essential oxygen and nutrients that it brings along for the ride.
And that, in turn, means a sharper and healthier brain.
Plus, several promising studies have found that a common blend of B vitamins, including B6, B12, and folic acid, can slow the “brain shrink.” And while all of our brains shrink a bit with aging, a faster shrink has been linked to cognitive decline and Alzheimer’s disease.
You might be taking fish oil already. If you are, keep at it. If you’re not, it’s probably time to consider it again.
And make sure you’re eating a serving of oily, cold-water, wild-caught fish… such as salmon, mackerel, or halibut…. three times a week. Along with brain protection, omega-3s are fantastic for cardiovascular health.
Many people aren’t getting enough of their Bs either. Multivitamins typically only contain the barest of minimums, IF they contain them at all. If you want to put a charge into your gray matter, you’ll need more. Look for a high-quality B complex to take along with your multi and your fish oil.
