It’s the most basic assumption you can make about memory loss and cognitive decline. But new research proves that it’s ALSO often just plain wrong.
Because those struggles don’t always begin where you think they would. They often don’t start in your brain. And in many cases, cognitive decline ISN’T caused by aging, either.
It turns out there could be a different origin for many of those memory complaints, especially if you have diabetes. And this trigger happens to be hiding in an unexpected and seemingly unrelated place.
New research reveals memory battles and cognitive decline could all start in your BELLY.
The good news is that it also means we now have a new way to attack the problem. And it’s a solution that doesn’t rely on a single new risky med.
The unexpected culprit behind cognitive decline
It’s not news that older folks with diabetes are at a higher risk for dementia. We’ve known that for a long time.
In fact, some people even refer to Alzheimer’s disease as “type 3 diabetes.”
But the new study takes things a BIG step further. The research revealed it’s not just diabetes alone driving up the risk of cognitive struggles, but it’s more specifically the belly.
It turns out folks with higher levels of abdominal fat are much more likely to suffer from the frightening mental lapses that mark the onset of cognitive decline.
In other words, more belly fat could mean less brainpower.
They found this wasn’t just true, as you might expect, in people with diabetes who were overweight or obese. It was also the case in folks with a normal weight, but just a little too much fat sitting on the waistline.
You know, that old “muffin top” or “spare tire” that often shows up after middle age and never seems to go away.
And while this study was focused on people with diabetes, we know that excess fat can lead to memory struggles and cognitive decline even in older folks who DON’T have the disease.
Burn off that belly fat to protect your brain
The bottom line? It’s time to let the air out of that spare tire, and force that muffin top to crumble to reduce your risk of cognitive decline or other memory troubles.
But, of course, that’s often easier said than done because belly fat can be more stubborn than an old mule. Once it appears, it can seem like nothing you do will burn it off.
Maybe you’ve even tried to shed the spare tire already. But found whether it was exhausting cardio, gimmicky ab exercises, or TV infomercial gadgets, the results were always the same… disappointing.
But there IS a way to aim your metabolism right at that fat, so it melts off quickly and easily.
Yes, you do have to start by moving a little more and eating a bit better, of course. Focus on cutting back on junk carbs and take up an active hobby you enjoy like swimming, golfing, gardening, walking, or dancing. Nothing too extreme… just be sensible on both counts.
Then, add some green tea to the mix. Either as a daily drink or a concentrated extract in a supplement. The potent catechins in green tea have been shown to help burn off belly fat in folks who exercise regularly.
As a bonus, those same catechins and the caffeine in green tea are terrific brain boosters that could also help fight cognitive decline and dementia.
