Funny thing about the vital organs. As critical as keeping them healthy is, most of us never give them so much as a second thought.
Well, not until something goes wrong, anyway. Because let’s face it, there’s no ignoring a problem when it hits that point. After all, they are VITAL. It’s right in the name.
Now, you might think I’m writing to you today to try to change that habit. And that I want you to put more thought into the health and wellbeing of some of those organs. But I’m actually not.
In fact, the last thing I want to do is give you something NEW to worry about. So today, I want to share something else with you instead.
It’s an easy way to help protect two of your most vital organs… your liver and kidneys. It’s an effortless way to support their continued good health, so you, hopefully, will never have to spare them a second thought.
And it’s likely something you love to do anyway. And that is drink coffee.
New research reveals MORE coffee benefits
The truth is our liver and kidneys don’t get nearly the respect they deserve. Other vital organs like our brain and heart get all the attention. But these hardworking organs are truly unsung heroes.
They filter out and remove toxins from our bodies. And that’s no easy task given all the junk in our food, water, and air these days. These organs have to put in more effort now than ever before.
If a friend was putting in that kind of hard work for you, the least you could do is show up with a cup of coffee as a thank you, right?
Well, it turns out your liver and kidneys would like that “thank you” gift every bit as much as that helpful friend. Because coffee is the key element spotted by two new studies on kidney and liver protection.
Lower the risk for liver cancer with java
The first study looks at coffee and liver cancer.
While most forms of cancer are getting MORE treatable and LESS deadly, liver cancer is the opposite. The case rate has tripled since 1980. And the death rate has more than doubled in that time.
No one knows why, exactly. But I suspect it has something to do with that little issue I mentioned a moment ago. We’re being exposed to more toxins than ever before. And as your liver desperately tries to filter them out, it’s also damaged by them.
But researchers say coffee could give your liver the extra oomph it needs to stay healthy. The new study finds that coffee drinkers are nearly a third less likely to be diagnosed with liver cancer. Plus, tea, milk, and yogurt were also linked to a lower risk.
Cut kidney risks with coffee
The second study looks at acute kidney injury. It’s another condition that’s seen a jump in cases.
Case rates have more than doubled in folks with diabetes, a condition known to be hard on the kidneys. But we can’t blame diabetes alone. Because diagnoses have TRIPLED in people who don’t have the disease, too.
More research is needed to figure out the cause. But my money’s on toxins being the villain here, too.
And again, it’s coffee to the rescue. The study finds that a daily coffee habit is linked to a 15 percent lower risk of acute kidney injury regardless of the amount you drink.
But the more coffee you drink, the bigger the benefit appears to be. Two or three cups a day cut the odds by nearly a quarter.
Best of all? Coffee doesn’t just help protect your liver and kidneys. A regular java habit is also linked to other health benefits. In fact, it could cut your risk for a devastating stroke by over 20 percent, according to one study.
