Don’t eat that. Drink this and die. And whatever you do, don’t swallow THOSE.
Hardly a day goes by when something else we love doesn’t end up on the naughty list. And I’m guessing you’re as tired of the bans as I am, right?
Well, if so keep reading.
Because some exciting new research doesn’t just redeem the reputation of two, popular “banned” beverages. It reveals how including them in your diet could be GOOD for you.
In fact, indulging could even help you live to see 90 and beyond.
Learning the secrets to longevity
Nearly two decades ago researchers from the University of California Irvine Institute for Memory Impairments and Neurological Disorders launched the Leisure World Cohort Study.
the health of more than 14,000 volunteers over the age of 75 to identify any important patterns that could help other folks live longer and healthier lives.
Then in 2003, some of the researchers launched a groundbreaking piggyback study to monitor the folks who had lived beyond the age of 90. They wanted to figure out what habits these long-lived nonagenarians had in common.
Coffee and alcohol linked to longer life
The researchers carefully tracked their diets, how much exercise the got, and what medications they were taking. And everyone came in every six months for soup to nuts testing.
And what they discovered, frankly, blew them away.
Conventional wisdom says if you want to stay healthy and live longer, you have to lead a “clean” life. And that, of course, means giving up coffee and alcohol.
But it turns out the folks in the study who drank moderate amounts of alcohol or coffee lived significantly LONGER than those who abstained.
Live to age 90 and beyond
The 90+-year-olds who downed between one and four cups of caffeinated coffee a day lived longer than the folks who drank less or none at all.
Like a little milk in your coffee? Go ahead and add a splash. The researchers didn’t find any negative effects from drinking milk or tea.
If you’re a teetotaler, it’s not a good idea to take up a brand new drinking habit, of course. But if you already enjoy having an alcoholic beverage from time to time, you’re in luck.
Women who had a single drink in the evening lived longer than ladies who drank less. And men who drank up to two adult beverages in a day lived longer too.
And best of all it didn’t matter what they drank.
Regardless of the type of alcohol the volunteers favored, a moderate drinking habit was still associated with keeping folks kicking into their ninth decade.
Live a little to live LONGER
Let’s face it. Living a LONG life isn’t worth it if you’re miserable the entire time.
So go ahead and feel free to indulge in both of these banned beverages in moderation. It could end up helping you add years to your life.
Oh, and the researchers uncovered two more things about those SENIOR seniors which might make those extra years even sweeter.
If you’re over 70 and carrying around a couple extra pounds relax. Because being a bit overweight was ALSO linked to a longer life.
In fact, folks who were normal or underweight didn’t live quite as long.
And as far as exercising goes, there’s no need to spend your life at the gym. Being active for 45 minutes, every day did the trick.
So go ahead and live a little more now if you want to live LONGER.
