They say there’s no way to stop or reverse dementia. What they REALLY mean is that no drug can do the job.
But the science is about to prove them DEAD WRONG on this critical issue. Because cognitive decline isn’t always a dead end.
There IS a way to help reverse that slide into dementia. And you can find it, of all places, inside coconuts.
Medium-chain triglycerides stopped the slide
New research looks at the effects of medium-chain triglycerides on the brain. And this study was a bit different.
The researchers didn’t focus on healthy people hoping to stay that way, which is often the case with studies. They didn’t even run tests on “at-risk” patients, hoping to avoid or at least delay the decline.
Instead, they looked at folks who’d already slipped DEEP into decline, both physical and mental. The volunteers were all…
- elderly and frail
- in their 80s
- with a baseline score of 17-17.5 points on the Mini-Mental State Examination
That last one, their MMSE score, is critical. It suggests “moderate dementia” for everyone in the study. And in most cases, it only gets worse from there.
And that’s exactly what happened to the control group. When they were given a long-chain triglyceride supplement, their scores dropped by another 0.7 points over three months.
But the lucky folks who got the medium-chain triglycerides, however, went in the opposite direction. Their scores JUMPED.
Coconut oil reversed the course of dementia
The changes were subtle at first. Over the first six weeks, the study participant’s MMSE scores rose only slightly. But then the magic happened.
By the end of three months, their scores had jumped by 3.5 points. They had an average score of 21 on the exam, or enough to move them up into the “mild” dementia category.
One volunteer even jumped to 23.7 points… just a hair under 24, which is the benchmark for “normal” cognition.
Their scores all dropped again six weeks after they quit taking the supplements, suggesting you have to stay on them to maintain your progress.
The study didn’t detail which medium-chain triglycerides they used. But one of the best sources for these healthy fats is the tropical “nut,” I mentioned earlier. The coconut is packed with them.
Specifically, coconut oil, which is widely available as a supplement, is swimming in medium-chain triglycerides. The folks in the study were given six grams a day, but you can ask your own doctor what dosage he recommends for you or your loved ones.
Coconut oil is also available for cooking. You’ll find it in the aisle with the other oils. It can be used like any other cooking oil, as well as added to hot soups and drinks or melted and added to smoothies and other cold foods.
And if you’re concerned about the saturated fats in coconut oil there’s something you need to know. Saturated fat isn’t the monster it’s been made out to be. And the supposed link between these fats and heart disease has never been proven.
In fact, there are a bunch of potential health BENEFITS to using coconut oil. Check out 8 reasons to start using coconut oil starting TODAY for a few of them.
