You’ve heard that old saying about an apple-a-day keeping the doc away, right?
Well, new research reveals it’s NOT true. You can’t keep the doctor away with just one apple a day.
For that, you’re going to need to take at least TWO.
Yep, it turns out two of these delicious fruits a day could help boost your health in ways that’ll FINALLY get your doctor off your back about something they obsess over. And that’s cholesterol, of course.
A regular apple habit may even save you from medication. And that includes avoiding statins, a class of drugs you REALLY don’t ever want to take.
Most importantly, humble apples have a hidden super-power that could help save you from cardiovascular problems.
This powerful fruit could reduce your risk for heart disease, slashing your chances of becoming a victim of today’s number one cause of death at the same time.
2 apples a day CAN deliver healthier cholesterol
I can’t think of a measure of health more overhyped than cholesterol.
The LDL number alone tells us almost nothing. Yet we now medicate tens of millions of Americans based solely on those digits. It’s absolute madness.
But there IS a way to cut that number, get your doctor off your back, AND enjoy TRUE protection all at the same time. And it’s those same two apples, according to a new study.
Apples are loaded with two key compounds that can cut cholesterol and protect your heart.
Fiber: You already know all about how fiber helps with digestion. But the benefits go far beyond having an easier time on the toilet. Fiber can also help stop weight gain, boost blood-sugar control, and even improve your sleep. Plus, it’s great for cholesterol control and heart protection.
The main issue is that most Americans fall WAY short with fiber. The average daily amount folks are eating is 15 grams a day. But you need at least DOUBLE that amount for optimal health. Apples are a quick and easy way to help make up for the shortfall.
Polyphenols: Apples are absolutely packed with healthy inflammation-fighting compounds called polyphenols. But polyphenols can also help in another critical way when it comes to cholesterol.
These compounds can help wipe out the damage of oxidative stress. And that’s key, because ignoring oxidative stress, and just addressing LDL alone, is a set up for failure when it comes to TRUE heart protection.
Dodge the doc the RIGHT way
Apples are a terrifically healthy fruit. And you can even reap their benefits by eating them in an organic, no-sugar-added, applesauce.
But naturally, there are limits to this apple trick.
For example, apple pies, strudels, cakes, and other apple-based dishes are ALSO loaded with empty refined carbs, including flour and sugar. And those foods will have the opposite effect on your cholesterol and your health.
And while apples are healthy, the pesticides sprayed on many of them are not. Washing or even peeling an apple won’t entirely remove them, either.
So opt for organic apples instead. They’re not as pricey as they used to be. The other day I picked up a sack of organic Fujis for under $5.
Low price. Great taste. Better health. That’s what I call a win, win, win.
