As you near your 50th birthday, the pressure to start taking statins really gets rolling.
If you manage to make it PAST that landmark birthday and haven’t caved to the push? Well, let’s face it, that’s a mini-miracle.
Trust me, I get it. It’s not that you don’t care about your heart health.
In fact, just like your doctor, I bet you want your cholesterol levels to be perfect every time they’re tested.
You just have legitimate concerns about statins.
The potential side effects alone… from memory loss to diabetes … are enough to give ANYONE second thoughts.
But then there’s the biggest barrier of all. The question of whether or not satins REALLY work.
Sure, they tend to send cholesterol levels plummeting. But they ignore the REAL danger, which is dense, sticky, OXIDIZED cholesterol.
Statins target LDL numbers but overlook the inflammation, calcification, and oxidation that are the TRUE enemies when it comes to heart and stroke risk.
In fact, there’s even evidence that driving LDL TOO low, as statins can do, can send stroke risk shooting through the roof.
When LDL levels drop below 70, hemorrhagic stroke risk rises by two thirds. And if they fall below 50, that risk can skyrocket by 169 percent.
Gooseberry gives MAJOR competition to statins
The harsh reality is that in dozens of trials, LDL statins didn’t move the needle on death risk. On average, folks taking the statins didn’t live any longer than those who weren’t on the drugs.
This means people who do cave to a statin could be taking on all the side effects and still be left with the job only half done.
But that’s where a powerful little green berry comes in.
There’s an extraordinary tree that grows naturally in India, the Middle East, and some southeast Asian countries. It’s called the Indian gooseberry.
And researchers say its berries could be the answer to that “ideal” cholesterol both YOU and your doctor desire.
A BALANCED approach to cholesterol
Unlike statins, Indian gooseberry appears to address ALL the elements of your cholesterol. And that’s a BIG deal because healthy cholesterol isn’t about LDL alone.
It’s actually a combination of several different factors, including…
- total cholesterol
- LDL (so-called “bad” cholesterol)
- HDL (so-called “good” cholesterol)
But the Indian gooseberry may be able to help with each one of them. And this more balanced approach could one day make statins obsolete.
The berry proved itself in a double-blind, placebo-controlled, 12-week study. Volunteers took either a 500-mg Indian gooseberry supplement or a placebo twice a day. And the results blew everyone away.
In the group taking the gooseberry…
- 73 percent had significantly lower LDL cholesterol
- 89 percent had significantly lower triglycerides
- 73 percent had significantly lower TOTAL cholesterol
- 39 percent had a drop in “atherogenic index” (a predictor of heart disease)
HDL or “good” cholesterol levels remained rock solid, staying in the healthy zone. And unlike with statins, CoQ10 levels weren’t negatively affected either.
The one significant potential side effect? BETTER fasting blood sugars.
In other words, the complete opposite of statins, which can RAISE diabetes risk.
So if you’re looking for a statin-free solution to managing cholesterol, talk to your doctor about giving Indian gooseberry a try.
Very low levels of ‘bad’ cholesterol may raise stroke risk
