According to the World Health Organization it likely causes cancer. This year alone it’s expected that millions of pounds will be used on crops.
And according to a shocking report by Newsweek, since the early 1970s enough of the stuff has been used that it adds up to half a pound being sprayed onto every single cultivated acre of land on this planet.
I’m talking, of course, about the pesticide glyphosate—commercially sold as Roundup—which has become so widespread that it’s now being detected even in foods we once thought of as “safe,” or that you may be eating because you believe they are good for your health.
Cancer-linked glyphosate invades your breakfast table
Now new testing from the Alliance for Natural Health has revealed glyphosate has invaded our breakfast tables.
The breakfast food hardest hit by the contamination is instant oatmeal, according to the report. But, appallingly, high levels of the pesticide where also found in breads and bagels too.
In other words, the whole grains that many folks eat because they think they’re so good for their health (they’re not, more on that in a moment) are swimming in a potential carcinogen.
The toxins you’re getting in every bite of these foods is reason enough to remove them from your shopping list starting today.
But if you’re worried about having to give up these “healthy” foods don’t, because the truth is even without the side of pesticides they’re not nearly as good for you as you probably think.
Ditch the instant oatmeal and other “healthy” grains
You see, there’s a reason why when you choose them for your breakfast you’re often pawing through the pantry by 10 AM looking for something to satisfy your hunger.
Sure breads, bagels and cereals do contain a bit of fiber, but they’re mostly hollow carbohydrates. That means when you eat them they send your blood sugar soaring.
Your body then desperately pumps out insulin to compensate and that in turn triggers a case of the hungries. You end up snacking all morning, and eating more at lunch as a result.
Raise your chances of getting a glyphosate-free egg
Eggs are a FAR better choice, because they pack in a hunger-satisfying protein punch. But the bad news is glyphosate has tainted our eggs too.
In fact, according to the report even the organic eggs that were tested popped positive for high pesticide levels.
But don’t give up hope. While we can’t avoid exposure to glyphosate completely (the stuff is EVERYWHERE now) we can still slash our exposure.
No doubt the eggs that were tested were the typical organic eggs you find in chain grocery stores. These eggs come from huge commercial factory farms where even so-called organically raised chickens might end up gobbling down non-organic feed.
Instead look up your local farmer’s market and buy your eggs from a small farmer close to home. Or find a local organic farm that sells eggs directly and pick up a batch every week. You’ll have a much better chance of getting clean eggs.
Say yes to yogurt
There was some good news from the Alliance for Natural Health report. It turns out yogurt tested very low for glyphosates.
Yogurt, which is naturally loaded with good for you probiotics is a great breakfast choice. Just make sure you are choose an organic plain yogurt that’s low in sugar.
If you like your yogurt a bit sweeter toss in some fresh fruit and a splash of honey.
