There’s new hope today in the battle against cancer. It’s a discovery that scientists believe could change the game forever.
And the secret isn’t a chemical concoction from a Big Pharma lab. So you won’t face unknown risks and side effects worse than the disease itself. It’s a perfectly natural fatty acid.
And in a moment, I’ll share with you EXACTLY how you can encourage your own body to make this stuff (and all the other ways it can help you).
But first, a little more about this potential breakthrough. This ingenious natural solution may be able to dismantle cancer cells using a process that researchers weren’t even aware existed.
Rare fatty acid could target cancer cells
Until recently, no one had ever heard of ferroptosis. It’s a newly uncovered form of cellular death that’s still poorly understood.
But what we do know is it involves a buildup of iron-dependent lipid peroxides inside of cancer cells. And now, scientists have just uncovered what could be a HUGE piece of the ferroptosis puzzle.
In lab tests on both human and animal cancer cells, they found that a fatty acid called dihomogamma-linolenic acid (DGLA) appears to activate this form of death. Which, if it happens within tumors, could WIPE out cancer.
They also discovered that some cancer cells seem to know about this potential threat, and try to use their own fatty acids as a shield to block DGLA. When that protective layer of fat is removed, the DGLA is even more effective at triggering ferroptosis.
And experts believe this could hold the key to a highly effective cancer treatment down the road. But the problem… for now… is getting it.
DGLA isn’t like the omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA. You won’t find it in foods or even in supplements. But don’t lose hope. It turns out you CAN raise your levels of it – indirectly – using an omega-6 fatty acid called GLA.
GLA benefits go beyond boosting DGLA
In general, you need to watch out for too many omega-6 fatty acids in your diet and ensure that they’re balanced out with the right levels of omega-3s, as many of them promote inflammation. In fact, that’s one of the main problems with the typical Western diet.
But GLA is a little different from the others. It might actually FIGHT inflammation. And more importantly, for today’s purposes, your body can convert GLA taken in supplement form to DGLA, according to a report from Penn State researchers.
It doesn’t happen on its own. There’s a recipe to it, as you also need to have enough of several other nutrients on board…
- magnesium
- zinc
- vitamin C
- vitamin B3
- vitamin B6
We need more research before we can say with any certainty if this approach helps prevent or treat cancer in humans (and I’ll certainly keep you posted).
But there are plenty of other reasons to consider boosting GLA levels.
One study on people with diabetes, for example, found that over six months, GLA helped to control blood sugar and ease the pain of neuropathy. Another found it may help cut blood pressure. And yet another found that women lost less bone – and some actually GAINED a little – when taking GLA with the omega-3 fatty acid EPA over three years.
GLA is often available via supplement as black currant oil, evening primrose oil, or borage oil. Speak to a naturopathic doctor or integrative physician to see if it could help you, and if so, the best way to get it.
