Strange. Weird. Even downright bizarre.
That’s how a new cancer revelation is being described. Because research has found that breast cancer can sometimes get its start in one of the most unexpected places possible.
In these cases, they DON’T start in the breast itself. They don’t even start deep inside your DNA. Instead you have to head south of the breast where these dangerous tumors eventually set up shop.
Researchers say some cases of breast cancer can start inside your gut. And a specific bug may be to blame.
The link between gut bacteria and breast cancer
According to scientists a certain kind of bacteria may help to drive these breast cancer tumors. It first finds its way inside your body through your diet. And then somehow ends up sneaking into the breast tissue itself.
In experiments on mice, researchers found that when they introduced a germ called enterotoxigenic Bacteroides fragilis (ETBF) directly into breast tissue the germs immediately went to work forming tumor cells.
But they also found something else equally as alarming. It happened when they introduced that same germ into the gastrointestinal tract, too.
ETBF is an old enemy. It’s already known to help colon cancers to form. But until now, however, researchers didn’t believe it could even reach the breast.
These are animal experiments. That means more research is needed, of course. But in separate studies, they also found the B. fragilis germ in breast tissue samples of HUMAN breast cancer survivors.
And there are other reasons for concern too. Certain bacteria and problems with the overall microbiome have been linked to colon cancer, stroke, heart attack, dementia, and more.
In other words, we already know our gut bugs CAN have a major impact on our health. So as bizarre as this breast cancer finding is, there’s every reason to believe it’s true.
Care for your microbiome to cut cancer risk
With every passing year we learn more about the importance of our gut health. In fact, experts say a healthy set of belly bugs is VITAL for good overall health. And it may help you reduce your risk for all kinds of specific health problems, including breast cancer.
These three steps can get you started by helping to balance your overall microbiome:
STEP ONE: Brush and floss daily. And consider using a mouth rinse with diluted hydrogen peroxide.
One way nasty bacteria can get into your body and set up shop in your gut and elsewhere is through your mouth. They sneak in through bleeding gums. But keeping your kisser clean and healthy can cut that path off.
STEP TWO: Avoid ultra-processed foods and only take antibiotics when absolutely necessary. Both can upset the delicate balance in the gut, wiping out helpful bugs and allowing the bad guys to take over raising your risk for breast cancer and other illnesses.
STEP THREE: Enjoy a probiotic-rich diet. Most folks know yogurt can be an excellent source for good bugs. But don’t stop there. Check out these 5 probiotic foods that AREN’T yogurt for more delicious options.
If you’re not taking a probiotic supplement yet, it’s time to get started. Look for a full-spectrum blend with multiple strains of human-tested bacteria
And don’t forget to care for those good bugs once you build them up with plenty of fiber-rich prebiotic foods. Click here to find out 4 delicious options to try.
