We all worry about fat around the middle.
But no matter what you call yours… potbelly, muffin top, gut, or paunch… some folks practically obsess over it.
And that’s led to an entire market devoted to pricey gyms, prescription pills, insane diets, and risky surgeries to supposedly shrink the flab, so your pants fit better.
But it turns out the REAL DAMAGE of all that extra fat isn’t there around your middle at all.
In fact, it’s not even visible (not without special equipment anyway).
It’s deep inside your brain! And it could be hitting the fast forward button on brain age.
Pardon me sir, but your brain is shrinking
Here’s a piece of biological trivia for you… and I have to warn you, it’s going to sound pretty alarming.
Your brain is shrinking.
Once you hit a certain age, the gray matter starts to shrivel, right there inside your skull.
Don’t panic, it’s NORMAL.
But if we’re being honest, it’s not exactly GOOD, since a faster brain shrink is often a sign of cognitive struggles and even dementia. And it means your brain age could be a lot different than your calendar age.
Ideally, you want to SLOW that shrink as much as possible. Or even STOP IT if you can.
But if you have too much fat around the middle, the opposite is happening. It’s as if you’ve accidentally hit the “fast-forward” button on aging in your brain, and it’s zipping off into rapid shrinkage.
The new study finds that if you’re big in the middle, your brain is likely losing far more mass, much faster than it would from normal aging alone.
More specifically, your brain could “thin out” in the cortex, which is essential to both memory and thinking skills.
The bigger you are, the thinner those regions. And the older your brain age.
Cut 10 YEARS off your’ brain age’ in one easy step
Now, as I mentioned, we all get a little shrinkage up there over the years. But the toll of extra weight is equal to about 10 years of aging.
Imagine that: Your brain could be a full decade “older” than the rest of your body. And that could be putting you at risk for cognitive decline, dementia, and Alzheimer’s disease.
But it doesn’t have to be that way.
Even if you’re overweight or obese now… even if you’re already struggling with “senior” moments… and even if you think the damage is done, I’ve got an important message for you right now.
It’s NOT too late!
You can still take action today to stop the shrink, reverse the damage, and save your brain. You could LOWER your brain age!
And it starts with plain old good nutrition. That includes brain-friendly omega-3 supplements and B vitamins, as well as a diet low in processed foods (especially carbs, and especially-especially refined carbs and sugars).
Stick to it, and you CAN reverse the ratio… adding “weight” to your brain while fat melts off from your middle.
