Recent research exposed a dirty little mainstream medicine secret. The study outed a despicable but frequent practice that’s putting millions of back pain sufferers in harm’s way.
These desperate Americans aren’t getting the proven pain-fighting treatments they deserve. And their doctors, who claim only to follow “evidence-based medicine,” are doing the opposite.
In fact, they’re going against established back pain guidelines. And the consequences could be downright disastrous.
But I want to help change that today.
If you, or a loved one, are battling back pain, I have some information that could help keep you safe. And just as importantly, it could help end your agony once and for all.
And the sooner you get started, the sooner you can get off the sidelines and back to doing all the things you love.
Docs IGNORING back pain guidelines
Back in the good old days, you could do whatever you wanted whenever you wanted to do it. You didn’t need to worry that you could soon be paying the price with back pain.
Climbing the ladder to clean your own gutters? Go right ahead. Hoisting the grandkids up onto your shoulders for a piggyback ride? Have at it. Shoveling your driveway? Feel free.
ALL those things, and more, were on the menu. You could dive in without worrying about how sore you were going to be the next day… or even in the next hour.
But not anymore. Back pain can turn ordinary tasks into extraordinary challenges. Plus, there are those days when you didn’t even DO anything to set it off, but you STILL hurt. A lot.
Tell your doctor about your back pain, and he’s supposed to offer you some proven steps that safely ease the agony. Proven solutions, such as physical therapy, which can both help with your immediate pain AND head off future troubles too.
But for far too many seniors, that’s NOT what’s happening. Instead, one in three older Americans with “new and persistent” lower back pain is given a dangerous opioid painkiller FIRST.
And yes, that IS directly AGAINST the established guidelines. Because not only are these drugs highly addictive, they don’t work any better for back pain than common, over-the-counter meds.
Pain relief WITHOUT dangerous drugs
That’s not the only BIG problem, the report uncovered either. It turns out 15 percent of folks are sent for back scans during a first visit, and 29 percent at the second… again, AGAINST the guidelines.
The reason for the guidelines is simple. Those scans often detect things like “disc problems” that are NOT the actual cause of the back pain.
You see, many folks are walking around with a so-called “bulging disk” but never have any symptoms from it. But once spotted on a scan, it often gets blamed for the pain and leads to unnecessary surgery just the same.
The guidelines recommend ordinary NSAIDs and physical therapy FIRST. And given that most cases of back pain go away on their own after a few weeks, that usually does do the trick. No heavy-duty drugs or surgeries needed.
But let’s face it, NSAIDs come with some unwanted baggage of their own. They aren’t nearly as bad as opioids, of course. But in some cases, they can lead to painful stomach problems and internal bleeding. And you don’t want to trade an ache in your back for one in your gut.
Topical non-drug pain relievers can work as well on back pain but without the risks. Look for one with MSM, capsaicin, or menthol.
And a relaxing massage can be surprisingly effective too. In fact, massage works so well that the 2017 guidelines from the American College of Physicians say doctors should URGE patients to try massage, exercise, or yoga BEFORE other pain-relieving approaches, including meds.
