Picture this. You’ve been prescribed an arthritis drug that does nothing to relieve the pain from this chronic condition. But while it offers zero benefits, it DOES still deliver side effects.
Well, that’s a reality for countless arthritis patients out there. And in my book, that’s not simply a “dud” of a drug. As far as I’m concerned, it’s outright fraud.
And if you’ve been trying to fight arthritis pain with THIS common medication, you could be the victim of one of modern medicine’s nastiest swindles. Because new research shows how one med is often given for knee pain which simply doesn’t work.
Now, to be clear, this isn’t a case where it doesn’t work for some people. That’s true of any treatment since nothing’s 100 percent effective.
No, in this case, the treatment simply DOES NOT WORK, period.
I’ll give you all the ugly details in a moment. Plus, I’ve got something that does the job that this drug fails to do.
It relieves arthritis-driven knee pain in many cases… and without the sickening side effects.
When your arthritis drug fails
Arthritis is a “try everything” kind of condition for many people. And it’s not hard to see why.
Arthritis pain can be downright agonizing. Whether it’s at its best or its worst, it can interfere with your ability to go about your day. And it can keep you from doing the things you love.
So most folks are willing to try just about anything to target their arthritis if there’s a promise of relief on the other side. And that’s how many people end up on a drug that isn’t even made for knee pain in the first place.
It’s called duloxetine. Instead, it’s typically given for conditions such as depression and anxiety.
The Osteoarthritis Research Society International and American College of Rheumatology have given “conditional” recommendations for the drug because of supposed evidence that it might help some people.
Except now the REAL proof is in. And duloxetine DOESN’T work. The study finds no differences at three months. And no real differences at a year, either.
The only place the drug made a difference is in the side effects it delivered. More than half quit the medication at some point in the arthritis study. And the number one reason why they dropped the drug was how AWFUL it made them feel.
Some battled the symptoms you’d expect with any drug, like nausea and constipation. But others struggled with some WEIRD side effects like hyperhidrosis (sudden and profuse sweating) and excessive yawning.
A better way to beat knee pain
The study’s authors urge docs to stop using the drug for arthritis pain. And maybe some will. But you know how it is in medicine: They’re quick to add new drugs… and painfully slow to remove them.
So do yourself a favor and don’t get started on this one. And if you’re already on it for your arthritis pain, be proactive. Give your doctor a call to talk about a safe way to get off of it as soon as possible.
Then consider giving some proven natural options for arthritis a try instead. One that consistently gets rave reviews is Type-II collagen or cartilage. Type-II is so good at beating arthritis pain that it performed THREE TIMES better than glucosamine and chondroitin in one study.
Acupuncture, physical therapy, natural anti-inflammatory supplements, and topical ointments can all help deliver real and lasting arthritis relief without the side effects of meds. Work closely with a naturopathic physician for the best results.
