That sound you just heard?
It was thousands of psychologists, psychiatrists, and psychotherapists all SCREAMING in unison.
They’re in a panic because a new study is threatening to send a LOT of them to the unemployment line.
Well, the ones who hang onto antidepressants for dear life and refuse to change, at any rate.
Because for perhaps the first time ever the mainstream was forced to admit there are natural drug-free ways to help fight depression and other mood disorders.
A new study PROVES that some of these remedies… previously ignored and even outright dismissed by the medical establishment… really DO work.
And it even uses the “s” word that the mainstream usually works so hard to avoid: Supplements.
The supplements that can beat depression
America’s biggest drug problem might not be illegal “street” drugs… legal opioid painkillers… or even the increasingly common “vaping” linked to so many strange illnesses.
Some 35 million Americans take antidepressants, and many can’t get off of them even when they desperately want to.
A study last year found 25 million Americans have been on antidepressants for at least two years. While 15.5 million have been on the drugs for at least five.
These are desperate folks in search of something… anything… that can ease the agony of depression.
Instead, they end up on meds that often “work” by not only dulling depression but pretty much ALL of their emotions. In other words, antidepressants end up sucking the joy out of everything (not to mention raising dozens of other risks and side effects).
But the new study reveals a solution that could potentially help many avoid the meds in the first place. Or, in some cases, finally, help folks get OFF the antidepressants merry-go-round.
And it starts with something you can buy right now in just about any vitamin shop, supermarket, pharmacy, big-box store, or online department store. And that is fish oil.
Slash antidepressant side effects with fish oil
In fact, the new “top tier” review of 33 studies (and nearly 11,000 patients) finds fish oil might be the BEST natural therapy for fighting depression.
Specifically, the omega-3 fatty acid EPA found in the oil.
The review also revealed that the other component of fish oil, DHA, may not work to combat mood problems on its own. And that omega-3 formulas which are heavier in DHA than EPA might be a bit less effective.
But fortunately, many high-quality omega-3 formulas already have a 60-40 ratio of EPA to DHA, which is about the same mix used in some of the more promising studies of fish oil and depression.
One Harvard expert wrote last year that he recommends one to two grams per day of an EPA+DHA combo with at least 60 percent EPA for folks suffering from major depression.
The new study finds that omega-3s are best as an “adjunctive” treatment. In other words, taken with another antidepressants or treatments.
If you’re on some sort of antidepressants, ask your doctor about adding omega-3s to your treatment plan. And if they work, you may be able to cut back on the drugs to minimize side effects such as those dulled emotions.
In some cases, the omega-3s may be so effective your doc will tell you that you can ditch the drugs altogether.
And if you’re NOT on mood meds already, omega-3 therapy could help you avoid ever taking them.
