Antidepressants are prescribed to millions. And they’re taken every day by countless senior Americans.
So you’d think these popular meds would be tested, re-tested, and PROVEN to work. But you’d be wrong!
New research has exposed the disturbing truth about this entire class of drugs. Incredibly, there’s virtually NO SOLID EVIDENCE they even work.
And we’re not talking about some exotic pills or potions you’ve never heard of here either. Heck, in many ways, these drugs are America’s FAVORITE class of medication.
In fact, antidepressants have become so popular that I can practically guarantee you know someone who is taking one of them right now.
It might even be you.
The depression drug debate
You may recall that last year a study made headlines by claiming they’d finally proven… once and for all… that antidepressants work.
It was supposed to settle a long debate.
You see, the drugs had passed the drug-company-funded studies used to get them approved by the FDA. But then many of them FLUNKED later independent studies which followed more rigorous scientific standards.
So in an attempt to finally figure it out, researchers looked at 522 trials involving a combined 116,477 participants testing 21 different antidpressants.
Amazingly, they found that ALL of the drugs tested worked.
Every single med beat the placebo. And that was no matter how bad its reputation or how many complaints had been filed on the drug.
The antidepressants lie putting YOU in danger
Now if that sounds too good to be true – just a little too convenient – then I must congratulate you on having a top-notch BS detector. Because a new team of researchers went back and double-checked the details.
And they found some HUGE flaws in the antidepressants study, including…
- The studies didn’t last long enough
- When they showed any actual benefits, they were very minor
- They weren’t effectively “blinded”
That last one is a MUCH bigger deal than you might imagine.
You see, the gold standard for medical research is what’s called a “blinded” study. That’s when researchers give some volunteers a drug and others a placebo. But the volunteers have no idea which group they’re in.
The trouble with antidepressants, however, is the drugs often cause significant side effects. And that quickly makes it obvious you’re swallowing the real deal, effectively “unblinding” the study.
So the new report re-ran the numbers to account for the flaws and biases – including the unblinding effect. And the team reached a completely different conclusion.
They found there’s no substantial evidence that any of the antidepressants are effective after all.
They also found that many folks taking the antidepressants actually dropped out of the trials. In other words, even if there were some small benefits, the side effects were so bad that many volunteers simply chose to live with their depression.
Find what works for YOU to beat the blues
Listen, I get it. Depression is complicated. Not everything works for everybody.
If you’ve found that antidepressants don’t work for YOU… or the side effects are too extreme… don’t give up.
There are natural, side-effect-free options you can try instead, including…
- Johns wort
- B vitamins
- omega-3 fatty acids
- vitamin D
