Researchers recently uncovered a stunning anti-aging secret hidden, in of all places, deep inside some common vegetables. When the powerful extract, called nicotinamide mononucleotide or NMN for short, was given to mice the results were so stunning that scientists have already launched a human clinical trial.
It turns out the compound NMN can be used to compensate for the loss of energy production that’s behind many typical signs of getting older.
In other words, it could help us naturally put the brakes on aging.
Roll back the years with age-defying vegetables
When researchers at Washington University School of Medicine fed NMN to healthy mice it literally slowed down the aging process. As the mice got older they continued to have metabolism and energy levels that resembled mice that were far younger, according to the study published in the journal Cell Metabolism.1
And the scientists even have a good idea how this miracle extract works.
As we age our bodies begin to make less of a substance called nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, or NAD. NAD plays an important role in energy production. And as our levels drop we start to see the adverse effects. Our muscles weaken and we can start to develop heart issues. Our liver function drops and our blood lipids become out of balance. And our insulin resistance grows, which can lead to type 2 diabetes.
But when scientists tried to supplement NAD directly their efforts fell flat. The NAD failed to slow down any signs of aging. But they didn’t give up, they decided to try supplementing with NMN, which had already shown some promise in an earlier study.2
And it worked! The NMN was rabidly absorbed and converted into age-defying NAD.
Compound leads to more energy less weight gain
It turns out supplementing with NMN improved…
- liver function
- bone density
- insulin sensitivity
- muscle health
- dry eyes
And the benefits didn’t end there. The NMN also helped the older mice maintain a healthy body weight, even as they ate more food. In other words, you may be able to say goodbye to that stubborn middle-aged spread.
Plus it supercharged their energy levels making them more physically active. For us that could translate into an extra round of golf, the energy to chase after the grandkids, or a few more spins on the dance floor without feeling exhausted.
Stay young with veggies
So, I bet you’re wondering how you can put anti-aging NMN to work for you. Although there is a clinical trial going on right now there aren’t any NMN supplements quite ready for us to start taking yet.
That means, for now, we need to get our NMN the old fashioned way, through our diet. Luckily you can easily bump up the NMN you’re getting in your meals by eating more of several different delicious fruits and veggies.
Foods high in NMN include…
So why not begin to put the brakes on aging starting today? Perhaps try a fresh cucumber, avocado and tomato salad for lunch. Or serve up a tasty side dish of savory, oven-roasted broccoli with your dinner tonight.
