Alzheimer’s is an incredibly complicated disease. There’s no single cause of the illness. And there may never be a one size fits all cure.
But new research has uncovered a solution that could make a big impact across the board. In fact, this “put it on pause” intervention might just be the Alzheimer’s breakthrough the world’s been waiting for.
And it doesn’t come to us from a Big Pharma lab.
Drug companies have burned through billions in cash trying to develop an Alzheimer’s drug that actually works. And let’s face it, they have little to show for it. Even that new nightmare med approved with huge fanfare a few months ago is looking like a bust.
But Mother Nature apparently had something else in mind. A powerful Alzheimer’s therapy that’s been hiding in plain sight.
In fact, there’s an excellent chance you already have it in your own home.
Put some OMEGA POWER into your brain
It turns out common fish oil could help put the brakes on Alzheimer’s disease.
In fact, if the latest research is any indication, this safe and inexpensive “kitchen cure” just might succeed where those billion-dollar drugs have failed.
According to researchers, high dosages of the omega-3 fatty acids found in the oil have the potential to significantly help slow the decline that accompanies Alzheimer’s disease.
And we’re not talking about an ocean full of fish oil here either. For the study, the scientists used just 2.3 grams of omega-3s every day.
Now that is more than most folks who take fish oil down daily, of course. But it’s not exactly what you’d call extreme either.
It’s roughly equivalent to what you’d get in about 5 ounces of salmon.
Target the underlying causes of Alzheimer’s disease
For the new study, 33 patients with mild to moderate Alzheimer’s disease were recruited. The volunteers who took the look-alike placebo continued to suffer the declines in memory you’d expect to see in Alzheimer’s patients.
But the folks who took the real-deal fish oil held steady. They didn’t decline further, essentially putting the disease on pause for at least six months and potentially even longer.
The study also appears to drive another nail into the coffin of dementia “markers” in the brain.
An analysis of the cerebrospinal fluid in the folks taking fish oil revealed they had small increases in two of those traditional Alzheimer’s markers. Yet, it didn’t have any negative impact on their memory.
It also may help explain why so many of Big Pharma’s drugs have flopped.
You see, most Alzheimer’s meds are designed to target those dementia markers. Their goal is to lower levels of this one or that one. But not specifically to slow the disease itself.
On the other hand, fish oil appears to tackle some of the underlying causes of the disease. And this could give your brain the boost it needs to fight the decline and slow the progression of Alzheimer’s.
Early intervention is key when it comes to this disease. So be sure you’re eating plenty of omega-3-rich fatty fish. Be sure to remain active. And go ahead and ask your doctor if you or a loved one can potentially benefit from this breakthrough.
If you get the thumbs up and want to mimic the levels in the new study, bear in mind that 2.3 grams of “fish oil” is NOT the same as 2.3 grams of omega-3 fatty acids. Check the label closely. Look for the EPA and DHA levels, then add them up to get the actual omega-3 dosage.
