You might think it’s the worst possible news. A drug you take every day and rely on is actually undermining your health.
This popular medication, used daily by millions for heartburn and acid reflux, has just been linked to a higher risk of diabetes.
And now you’ve got two choices:
- QUIT the med and suffer
- KEEP taking it and face the risk
But what if this bad news was a blessing in disguise? Because it turns out there’s a third option… one that’s far safer.
Which means this new warning is a golden opportunity to get on board with a much safer way of beating acid reflux.
The HIDDEN toll of PPIs
The reality is most of us don’t need any “help getting diabetes.
Some 30 million Americans already have the disease. And one in three of the rest have pre-diabetes, meaning they’re on the verge of getting the disease.
All it takes is one little push. And research now confirms that push is precisely what you might get from your acid reflux meds. The new study finds that the proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) taken by millions can send your risk of diabetes climbing.
They claim the risk is small… because it is. At first, anyway.
But it quickly grows from there. According to researchers, if you take these acid reflux drugs for two years, your diabetes risk can soar by a quarter.
And the PPI risks don’t end there either. They’ve also been linked to bone breaks, nasty infections, and magnesium deficiency. But it gets worse.
These acid reflux staples have been linked to DOUBLE the chance of stomach cancer, and research last year found they can even increase your odds of early death.
Manage your acid reflux without meds
Many people think they need PPI drugs to manage their acid reflux. But one study found that 70 percent of all prescriptions for PPIs are medically unnecessary.
That’s because there are other far safer ways to beat back chronic heartburn effectively. You can get the relief you deserve without the risks.
Start with an old favorite. This basic “kitchen cure” has fallen out of favor over the years, and that’s a shame. Because for many folks, it’s just as effective today as it was back when your grandmother relied on it.
It’s baking soda. At the first hint of discomfort, try this…
- mix a teaspoon of baking soda into a glass of cool water
- let it sit until it clears
- then drink it down for easy, soothing relief
If that doesn’t do the trick, it might be time to consider a form of licorice called DGL. And dropping a few pounds can help in many cases too.
For recurring battles with the acid swamps, seek a naturopathic medical doctor. He will look for the underlying cause of your acid reflux. He can even run some tests for undiagnosed food allergies and other sensitivities to help nail down the culprit behind the burn so you can finally get some relief.
