But have you bought a bottle of NSAID painkillers lately? Talk about sticker shock. And that’s just the over-the-counter stuff like Tylenol and Advil. The skyrocketing price of prescription pain killers is enough to give you a nosebleed!
Well it’s time to smash the myth that natural equals expensive. Because there are plenty of natural pain relievers that work and won’t break the bank. In fact, many of them cost under 25 cents a dose!
And you don’t even have to live somewhere with a specialty nutrition store to get your hands on them either. You can pick up these powerful pain relievers at most drug stores, or just as easily online.
You just have to know what to look for…
Valued in traditional medicine for centuries, boswellia is the very same plant that produces the frankincense brought by the Magi as a gift that very first Christmas. This powerful herb works with your body’s own autoimmune system, effectively blocking substances that attack healthy joints. Prevent the initial attack and you prevent the pain that comes with it. And boswellia doesn’t just tackle joint pain. It effectively soothes all kinds of other pain too.
Inflammation hurts. It doesn’t matter whether it’s caused by arthritis, a throat infection or even surgery, it’s simply painful. But it turns out the antidote for inflammation, and the pain that comes with it, may have been hiding inside a pineapple. Yes, really. The pineapple extract bromelain is an enzyme that targets swelling, reducing inflammation and driving away pain. 3. Fish oil:
Omega-3-rich fish oil doesn’t just help relieve pain. Curcumin helps fights pain by blocking the same inflammatory substances that the drug Celebrex targets. A daily dose of this natural anti-inflammatory is great for preventing joint swelling before it even gets started. In one study curcumin beat back pain more effectively than the common NSAID pain killer diclofenac.
Undenturated type II collagen, or UCII for short, is a proven pain reliever. In one study, UCII was found to be 2 times more effective at tackling arthritis pain than glucosamine and chondroitin. AND UCII more than doubled people’s quality of life. In another study a group of folks with advanced rheumatoid arthritis saw a significant drop in joint pain and stiffness, with four volunteers even reporting a complete resolution of their symptoms!
6. White Willow Bark:
Willow bark has been relieving pain since the time of the ancient Greeks, and today you’ll still find it in every natural healer’s bag of tricks, so you know it works! The active ingredient in willow bark, salicin, is very similar to aspirin, and like aspirin this herb can effectively relieve all sorts of pain. It’s especially good for joint and arthritis pain in the knees, back, hips and neck. But keep in mind that also similar to aspirin it can cause stomach upset for some folks, and if you’re on a blood thinner be sure to clear it with your doctor first.
