Candida, the word alone can strike fear into the heart of anyone who’s ever heard a candida horror story. Worsening health, overwhelming symptoms, the seemingly endless battle… it sounds like a real nightmare.
That’s why it often comes as such a surprise when I explain to people that candida isn’t inherently a bad guy.
De hecho, in its common yeast form—which is found in virtually everyone’s gut—candida plays a helpful role in digestion. And its benefits don’t end there, this helpful yeast also optimizes tissue pH and synthesizes vitamin A.
But when candida shows up in its fungal form that’s when all bets are off.
There are a staggering number of conditions and diseases associated with fungal candida. With well over 100 health complaints linked to it—including arthritis, diabetes, indigestion, autoimmune diseases, skin conditions and allergies among them—the fungal form is what gives candida its well-deserved bad reputation.

Crush the Candida Secret #1: Be frugal with antifungals
You’ve heard all about antibiotic resistance before. Well it turns out when it comes to candida it’s another kind of resistance we need to be aware of.
Just like the overuse of antibiotics can lead to disastrous super-infections that the drugs can no longer treat, using antifungal meds to tackle candida can lead to antifungal-resistant rebound infections.
To add to the misery antifungals are typically toxic to your system and end up suppressing your immunities making you even more vulnerable.
Try a natural alternative instead. I recommend caprylic and undecenoic acids.
Crush the Candida Secret #2: Bump up the belly bugs
Good gut bugs, known as probiotics, are live bacteria and yeast that live in your digestive tract and help you stay healthy. When your belly bugs are in balance Lactobacillus bacteria squashes candida overgrowth keeping the fungus in check.
You’ll find Lactobacillus in fermented foods and most probiotic supplements. But antibiotics can wipe your good gut bugs out including that all important Lactobacillus allowing the candida to gain a foothold.
Even worse the candida turns into a belly bully suppressing new Lactobacillus growth. So it’s important to fix fungal imbalance for your probiotic supplements and foods to work well.
Crush the Candida Secret #3: Squash the sugar myth
The one thing most people can tell you about candida is that sugar is the black hatted villain in the candida story, fueling the ugly fungus. They will swear that a high sugar diet is behind out-of-control candida overgrowth and that the only way to beat this fungus is to starve it by banning all sugars and carbs from your diet.
And those people are wrong.
People are passionate about the sugar myth but the truth is candida doesn’t even need sugar to survive. In fact candida is perfectly capable of surviving and thriving on fats and proteins.
But the sugar myth is more than just wrong, it can be downright harmful. Swearing off sugar entirely means you’re starving other cells in your body that do require sugar as fuel… including those good belly bugs I mentioned earlier… and you end up weakening your immune system as a result.
So ditch the sugar myth and opt for a healthy BALANCED diet instead.
Crush the Candida Secret #4: Put the hydrogen peroxide down
Common hydrogen peroxide (H202) is an unsung health hero. When we think of powerful natural remedies hydrogen peroxide never seems to make it on the list. Yet most of us have a bottle of H202 stashed in our medicine cabinet and we use it at least several times a year.
And the power of hydrogen peroxide extends well beyond just treating minor cuts and toothaches. Given intravenously H202 can be used to fight major bacterial infections and even cancer. Your body’s white cells even produce H202 on their own to help tackle infections by sending extra oxygen to the affected tissues.
These abilities of hydrogen peroxide have led many to conclude that swallowing H202 is a good way to tackle candida. But this oxygen trick falls completely flat when it comes to fungal candida. You see, candida can live in both highly oxygenated environments as well as it can in low oxygen ones. De hecho, candida has even been known to pump out its own H202 to destroy the oxygen-hating bacterial competition in the gut.
So despite what you may have heard, oral hydrogen peroxide is a bad idea. It not only won’t kill the candida it could destroy your good bacteria balance allowing the candida to flourish.
Crush the Candida Secret #5: Resist the urge to kill & restore balance
In the classic 80s movie, “Wargames,” the supercomputer learns… and teaches us… an invaluable lesson, and that is that the only winning move is to not play the killing game. Believe it or not that same lesson applies to fungal candida overgrowth.
See most people naturally think that to get better they need to kill the candida. It makes sense on the surface, but it’s actually wrong. The only real way to overcome candida is to NOT kill it.
Let me explain.
As I warned earlier trying to kill candida with anti-fungal meds will typically backfire on you essentially creating drug-resistant superfungus strains. But the nightmare gets worse from there.
A study out of Toronto revealed that the fungal candida we do manage to kill don’t go down without a fight. When our helpful white blood cells go to sweep up the mess of dead candida cells they get attacked by a deadly secretion the sneaky candida leaves behind in death.
So, in other words, killing the candida can end up harming your health even more. Instead strive for restoring balance.
